Very good product overall
That bag is very good. Only 1 thing I dont like is that the laptop pocket is in front of the bag and thus only gets a very limited protection. That means we need to add a sleeve to protect the laptop and it takes much more spaces, additionnally the strap for the laptop is too short. Needs an additionnal 5cm or so to be optimal

La perfection
Ce sac est extrêmement bien pensé et d’une solidité à toute épreuve (et pourtant avec moi les zippes ont pris cher!). C’est le meilleur back pack que j’ai jamais possédé.

hasnt met my expectations yet
I had high hopes for this bag after owning several other osprey products. I own a 75litre hiking pack and an osprey quantum. The Quantum is used every day and has an excellent and durable design for being a general use daypack. This pack has just arrived and there are some aspects of the design that im disappointed with, most of these are down to small details. Im quite used on my quantum pack to having a keyfob to hold my keys, lots of smaller mesh pockets and holders inside the front pocket. This pack has no key holder (which could easily have been added - come on osprey i cant leave my keys at home when i travel!), and no small subdividing pockets to the main front pocket - which surprised and disappointed me. The external mesh pockets on the quantum are much more stretchy and durable and therefore suited to holding a wide range of items, but on this pack the mesh is virtually rigid - this makes the mesh pockets much much less useful when the pack is full. The main compartment is a good size, it takes some skill to pack well, but this is the same with any carry on, so no points off for that. The shoulder strap included turns out to be an EXCELLENT design choice, this means you can shoulder carry the pack that last small section to the plane and tidy the remaining straps so they dont become an irritation. the straps themselves are excellent, good padding. I was very disappoointed that no mesh pockets were added on the sides - this would have been useful to hold water bottles, rain covers, rubbish etc while not at the airport - i guess the designers left this off as, if the pockets were full for flying the bag would be 'oversize' but any intelligent person would just stow the items into the main pack when flying? The manufacturing materials are excellent, as are all osprey packs, very tough and durable fabric. The internal straps are a must, using them eliminates air from your packing and suddenly you can fit even more in! Osprey, please spend a little time on the functionality of this pack for the next design version and make it more utilitarian like the quantum.

Like a TARDIS
Apart from annoying compression straps and a bit too much padding, I just can't understand how it swallows nearly everything i throw at it!! If you know the TARDIS from 'Dr Who' TV series this bag is the same. Impossibly big on the inside compared to the outside. This is my 5th Osprey bag in the collection I have going back to the late 90s. Quality is what you get with an Osprey. Hats of too Osprey.

Travel light
I bought the Osprey Farpoint 40 for minimal travel round the world! I spent some time deciding what I really needed, and in the end took less anyway, and now I have unpacked it after a short trip, find I have loads of space still!
Several shirts, t's and three pair of shorts three long pants, and a pair of hiking trainers, STILL I can get a bit more in there. Plus my laptop and docs.
Mentioned in other reviews, yeah the clam does not open completely round the edge, although I like that and can pack down there pretty tight, giving a low CoG.

really great pack and couldnt find any fault... Maybe that I misunderstood a rain cover was included, and that now, one month later (had I waited longer to buy) I would also have a FREE 30l Stuff Duffel (easily used as a daypack/beach etc).
Its a no brainer and My gf will be buying one of your bags too!

The most well known travel backpack in the world
I purchased both the Farpoint 40 (for me) and the Fairview 40 (for my wife) since we love flying carryon only. So far no problems and we took our backpacks to Cyprus, Holland, Spain, Mallorca, Malta and so on. It's indeed the perfect backpack.

Balanced backpack
Works well, very comfortable, good quality - no issues during my 2-week trip!
Manu
Great Carry-on bag !
Very nice bag for travel.
Not a trekking dedicated bag (but should be suitable for short treks), but very nice for city trips and exploring a country.
It is perfectly sized, valid for carry on size, but has lots of space inside, especially if you use packing cubes.
Nice design, solid materials, lockable zippers is a big plus.
Dorian
Really Nice but with flaws.
I bought this backpack to for office and travel and I really like it so far. Some things I just did not understand:;

- clam shell does not open completely.
- due to that reason (it seems so) at the bottom less can be packed inside ; so the backpack has kind of "head weight"
- mesh nets for water bottle are difficult to use when closed completely
- no compression straps on the side
- also I find it difficult to get fast access as the zipper is not so easy to catch (it is covered); possibly connected with the rain protection of the zippers?

Apart from that it is quite an awesome backpack.

Awesome!
I’ve had the Farpoint70 for around 6 years, it’s been around the world with me and had done more miles than Dr Emmet Browns Delorean. It truely is an awesome pack but I’ve learned from my travels to pack light and save a fortune in time and money from not checking bags! The Farpoint40 is nearly perfect, it’s plenty big enough for everything I need, comfy, well designed and made! The only thing I could possible wish for is the detachable day pack (which gets rolled up and packed anyway) that I adored so much about the 70L pack!
jayke
why no farpoint 30?
i am a minimalist traveler and the design of this bag was perfect but i had a lot of spare space and felt that everything would have fitted into a 30l. farpoint 30 please please please!

Where are the instructions!
The bag has so many pockets, zips and permutations so when paying £100 it would be nice if it came with a pocket guide.

Great!
The perfect solution I've been looking for years. Quality and materials are incredible, you cannot imagine or find around better solution to be able to "fit" into standard hand luggage cabin sizes. Comfortable to walk with it on your back also for trekking or whole days, then you have at the same time a well organised luggage. Great product I'm more then happy!

great bag.
Recently bought the Farpoint 40 bag as my daughter had one and it was and is well used.We both went to Rwanda for 3 weeks and did a fair bit of travelling throughout the country with our Farpoint 40 bags which provided ample room for our belongings and not too heavy to carry. On return to London we left both bags at the hotel reception to keep safely while we went out for the day but got a call later in the day to say a member of the public found my bag under a car and it was damaged.Eventually got the bag back from the police to find some of the contents missing but my biggest hurt was the damage to the bag[burnt, slashed and lock broken off the bag and 1/2 zip forced open]Didnt get much use out of it and would like to buy another one but would rather another colour than the grey one i had. Will you be producing other colours more than the grey and the red you currently have?
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Farpoint 40.

It is great to hear that your pack served you well on your recent trip to Rwanda, however, we are sorry to learn of the damage caused when your pack was stolen.

There are no current plans to launch the Farpoint in any alternative colours than Volcanic Grey and Jasper Red.

This tough and rough bag is willing to take a scuff while in the buff. :)
This is an amazing bag that I have been using several months while traveling in the region of Eastern Europe. I have been living out of it for 3 months now and it hasn't been hard. I plan on living out of this backpack when I get back to the states. I have other trips planned out and this backpack will do the job! This bag has seen trains, planes, buses and more! It is definitely a backpack that I will cherish for the rest of my life! What I suggest is that you also purchase a small backpack where it can collapse or doesn't have a frame. That way you can have a day bag ready to go while you travel. This backpack is great from getting all your stuff from point A to point B but wouldn't be fun to lug it all around the city. Which is totally fine!

Pros:
-Carry-on size
-Innovative design
-Straps can be covered up
-The best size to fit your life in.
-Hip padding

Cons:
-The laptop sleeve is too far from the frame and is very vulnerable to damage due to the laptop being on the outside of the pack.
-Your back will get very sweaty. No real ventilation on the back.
-The back shape does cut into some of the space in the backpack.
-Water bottle pockets are inaccessible when everything is tied down.
Osprey Customer Service,

Fantastic bag for long and short trips, too little water bottle pockets.
Absolutely love my Farpoint 40, I bought this before they brought out the women's version and have no issues with the fit. I use it on all my long and short term trips, from 1 week to 6 months for the past 4 years. Fits everything I need including my DSLR camera and all essentials. Fantastic compartments and easy packaway straps for backpack mode.

My only cons are;
1: The water bottle mesh pockets are far too small to actually utilise. The mesh needs to be just a little bit taller to allow for full sized bottles.

2. There's no minimal clip to add on a smaller day pack to the front.

Please Osprey consider these options to add on to the next design as these minor alterations/add ons would make for the most ideal bag, without adding any negligible weights, in my opinion.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Tosh,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Farpoint 40.

It is great to hear you have been pleased with your pack, and that it is able to fit all the necessary equipment for your travels.

We will ensure your feedback on larger side pockets and the additions of clips to allow this pack to be compatible with a smaller daypack, is passed to our Design Team for consideration.

Le sac cabine de voyage idéal
Après une première aventure en Sicile avec, le verdict est sans appel. Génial ! Suffisamment grand pour partir avec tout le nécessaire, confortable, pratique et esthétique. Je recommande sans hésitation !

Backpack of my dreams
It was love at first sight when I first saw my Farpoint 40. It's the perfect backpack for my short-mid term travels, though I've been meeting people with the same backpack who were on the road for weeks or months. I really like the good quality materials and everything seems to be well thought trough. I have the feeling that it will last me many years, maybe my whole life.
The only thing what I miss (thus the 4 stars instead of 5) are some smaller organising pockets, similar to the sandwich pocket on the top.
Chris
Excellent,quality sums it up
This is a quality product that will last the test of time

Almost perfect
What can I say about it. This is a great backpack that will stand for years to come. It is almost perfect because i wish it has a separate shoe compartment like Escapist. But still, a great buy.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Latif,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Farpoint 40.

It is great to hear that you have been pleased with your pack, however, we will ensure that your feedback on the addition of a separate shoe compartment is passed to our Design Team for reflection.

Parfait !

A good choice for a 5 week holiday
Turning 50 the year I decided to go to New Zealand for 5 weeks and I decided to travel with a luggage bag and a day bag, so bought the Farpoint 40 and the 20l 'daylite plus'. I went with this combo because I like a larger daypack ( to fit camera and lenses, food, drinks and waterproofs) and I was aiming to travel with as a little as possible. I avoided the Farpoint 55 and 70 because of the small day pack, just to say the 20l 'daylight plus' proved to be too small when doing day hikes around Dunedin, Queenstown and Taupo

The Farpoint 40 did its job and in combination with a set of packing cubes, the trip went without any real problems. It was very comfortable when walking round cities to find my accommodation. I managed to get enough kit in it so that I only needed to wash clothes once a week which i thought was pretty good given its only a 40l pack. It seems pretty robust having been banged around in planes and buses.

On the downside from my point of view I'd have liked a couple more loops on the outside to secure stuff to as well as having a water cover built in given the price.

Finally, I'm going back to New Zealand in a couple of years and will be taking this rucksack again unless Opsrey producers a 60l version in which case I'll upgrade. However, I'll be taking something other than the 20l 'daylite plus'.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Neil,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Farpoint 40.

It is great to hear that you have found the Farpoint 40 a good choice for your travels around New Zealand, and that allowed you to pack as much as you needed, without having to choose a larger volume of pack. However, we will ensure your feedback on further external loops, the addition of a raincover, and the prospect of a 60L version, is passed to our Design Team for reflection.

As an alternative to the Daylite, we would recommend looking at our Talon Series, this is our most popular daypack, and you may find the Talon 33 to offer more features for your day trips, with an increased volume.

5 Star all day long
Being sporty, I have had a lot of bags. I decided to go traveling for a year and upgraded to the Osprey Farpoint 40 and it was no disappointment. The price is great compared to similar bags and especially for the quality. After a full year in Asia, 9 crashes, 10's of flights and 23,000km of riding, it is still in great shape. I'm going back to Asia in 3 weeks and I am still taking my old Osprey because its been that good to me. Couldn't ask for a better product. Definitely one of the best bags on the market.

It comes as a two in one. ()I'm pretty sure) A smaller 13l day pack and a 42l large backpack. The 43l has one main area, and a mesh-zip covered area too. The 13l, ()which I use for both personal and travel use everyday), has a front zip, to mesh holding spaces for bottles, a laptop pocket, an inner zip compartment more than big enough to fit a tablet or books and a main compartment. Loads of space to carry my essentials and tech. As stated previously, it has survived 9 motorbike crashes and also being hit by a landslide (literally). Don't bother looking around, this is the bag for everyone.
Ingrid
Perfect 40L backpack but cannot find matching small bag
What small backpack would match jasper red colour of 40L Farpoint? I do not need to attach it anyhow, just matching colour smaller bag for daily use. If there is no such bag, what colour smaller bag would you recommend to use together? Online it is difficult to understand all the shades of red if they look good together
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Ingrid,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Farpoint 40.

We do not range a smaller day pack in the colour Jasper Red, however, the closest in colour to this would be the Martian Red colour ranged in our Talon Series.

Best pack ever ??
I’ve been using one for work for a while and would say it’s probably the best pack I’ve ever owned, it has everything (almost) you need and nothing that you don’t !! Just two things that could make the pack faultless. The first is some mesh pouches around the edge, or even just at the top edge of the main compartment to stop odd things that you toss in (travel adapter) getting lost in your clothes. You don’t want to use the mesh pouch in the lid for this because this backs on your lap top. The other is to make the inner straps that hold you close a contrasting colour - like the green used elsewhere, which would stop them getting lost at the bottom of the pack. If it had those this would be the only pack you would ever need - basically ever !!
Kas
Awesome bag!
I am super happy with the bag. I did not choose Fairview because I always prefer men's range when it comes to colour of the bag packs. I chose the Volcanic Grey one and it's practical and I will not stand out from the crowd. When the bag arrived, I was a tad disappointed as the velcro strap was misaligned and I was not so sure about the bag itself. However, once I packed and had the load on my shoulders, I knew it was the right choice and I regretted not getting it earlier - it would have been perfect for my 4 month backpacking trip - I had a 60L Deuter that was too much for Indian buses. The main compartment is spacious and I really like the fact that there are other smaller pockets I can use for anything I want - laptop, kindle, etc. The only thing I would have liked to have - would be a small packet on the hip strap - to be able to store small change or a travel card there - quick access without having to take it off my shoulders. As I was travelling the next day, I could not return the bag to change it - velcro - it seems to work anyhow. A great bag for ladies too. After having read numerous reviews, I opted for M/L being broad shouldered and 5.7 tall. It was the right choice. I am very happy with the bag! I wish I had discovered Osprey range much earlier.

Bestes Handgepäck
...die neue Leichtigkeit des Reisens. Ausreichend für Wochenend- u. Kurztrips. Absolute Empfehlung!
Irfan
Very satisfied with this product.
It is spacious and holds clothings and other items of need while on travel for weeks depending upon how one lives. I can travel with it full and place it in the plane hat rack without any issues. It is extremely comfortable as a backpack. Thank you as my quest for a decent backpack spanning over decades is over.
Fran C
Good sack, could do with a couple of tweaks.
Overall I'm happy this sack will be good for trips abroad and hopefully solo camping at a festival, travelling on a coach that only allows a 'medium sized' bag. Obviously it's gonna be a challenge to fit a tent, sleeping bag, mat, clothes, etc into it. I've made a spreadsheet in Numbers to add up the weight and volume of each item. Two criticisms, firstly the outside pockets are of dubious use. You could only put a water bottle in if the sack wasn't too full, and it might not be very secure. If you put trekking poles in they might trash the mesh. However they are better than nothing and everything has it's pros and cons. I think they should be able to be used when the rucksack is crammed full, and the bottom compression strap is not being used. To do this Osprey just need to build a bit of slack into them, add a bit more mesh. Adding a bit of material at the bottom and elastic at the top would be nice. My second criticism is that there are FOUR large flat pockets virtually the height of the bag. I do not own one large flat item let alone 4. Obviously one is for a laptop but the other three are for what? Any items fall to the bottom making packing efficiently a problem. There is a saving grace - the outer top pocket covers the top third of the bag. The very bottom of the main one of the 'big four' covers the bottom 20%, the bottom of the outer mesh pocket on top of the laptop sleeve is a bit higher so starts at around the top of the bottom 20%. So if you fill this about quarter full it will be roughly in between the other two and so the thee combined roughly utilise the vertical space. Still it's a workaround of a questionable design. It still leaves the fourth of the big 4, which is in the top of the main compartment. This annoys me a bit because all this material eats into the volume and weight, and presumable adds to the price. I have seen a flat backpack organiser for small items but it's more weight and expense. Anyway, that's my packing tip to make use of it, basically don't put much in each, and also don't if flying as you could go over the maximum size.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Fran,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Farpoint 40.

It is great to hear that overall you have been happy with your purchase of the Farpoint 40, and that you believe it will be a good fit for your upcoming trips and festivals.

However, we are sorry to learn that you have found a couple areas of the pack which you feel could be improved. The external stretch mesh pockets have been designed for items you may want to quickly access, a water bottle should comfortably fit into these pockets, even when the pack is at full capacity, and can be securely kept in place by tightening the compression strap that goes across both pockets. We would not recommend that walking poles are kept in this pocket, as due to the mesh material the poles may cause damage, one of our Hiking Pack would be better suited for activities that include walking poles, and all of our Hiking Packs come with walking pole attachment points.

The flat pockets within the front compartment of the Farpoint 40 have been designed to offer great organisation, and allow the user to securely protect their laptop within the dedicated padded laptop sleeve. The other pockets can be great to organise your travel or festival documentation, ensuring that you will know where all your important documents are, making it quick and easy to find.

17 dias en Tailandia
He estado 17 dias en Tailandia y estoy encantado con el resultado.
EL único inconveniente, es el hecho de que no tenga un sitio donde bloquear los carros de la cremallera para que no la puedan abrir.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Pol,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Farpoint 40.

It is great to hear that the Farpoint 40 has been a delight for you to use whilst on your travels in Thailand.

On the main compartments you can lock the zips together, with any standard travel lock, to ensure the safety of its content.

Great bag
I've been using this bag for a 10 day travel now and it has been great.

I have some feedback that I think would make this and other bags even greater:
1: The zippers could interlaced to make a kind of locking mechanism for when you are wearing the pack.
2: A powerbank pocket on the inside with a USB connection point on the outside and maybe a small fold where you can stuff your cable when not in use.

Anyways. This bag has served me well on my interrail. I can really recommend

The best travel bag
I used this bag when I visited Greece for 1 week and India for 3 weeks last year. Before this I used the Wayfarer 70 Women's specific which I found WAY to big. The more space you have the more you pack haha. Anyway if you are getting this bag you must buy packing cubes in order to maximise the space as there aren't that many pockets. The green inside contrasts amazingly with the blue of the bag and will look great with the raspberry pink packing cubes I just ordered as the two I had weren't enough for India, the blue also doesn't show the dirt as much as the red bag I had did, it has come back from India looking as good as new! I had many admiring glances from the other people on my tour as my bag was the smallest and sturdiest, not to say the most attractive. Some of the people packed bags that were too big and heavy for them to move, and I was able to move mine easily on my 5ft frame *smirks*. The harness system, as with my other bag, is amazing and holds it tight to your body and distributes the weight. The only annoying thing is I bought this to use as hand luggage and it is too big for international flights *sigh* but at least international flights include free hold luggage. I love Osprey bags so much that bought my boyfriend the Porter 46 so that he can travel with me. This bag will be going with me for a year in Australia, then will be heading to New Zealand. What are you waiting for? Buy buy buy.
Michael
Just amazing
I am using this bag for a couple of years now. it has been with me through most of Europe, Thailand and the USA. Infact after our first trip my Girlfriend was disappointed with her backpack and she bought the Farpoint herself. We only travel with carry on wherever we go and this is jsut the perfect size.
Peter
11 months of Abuse Withstood
This backpack is amazing. I used it for 11 months backpacking across South America. I was not delicate with this backpack and it has withstood everything I could throw at it. It was my main bag and all of the zips, pockets and straps are still in good condition. I can see where osprey got their great reputation. I would highly recommend this backpack to anyone wanting to travel long-term. It was more than sufficient for my needs and if you need something bigger...your packing too much!

It's ideal for travel as you can unzip the bag all the way. However I wouldn't recommend this bag for long days consecutive trekking because it doesn't have a built in strong frame or hugely supportive middle straps. Having said that a mate of mine did the W trek in Patagonia for 5 days using the 55 litre Farpoint and he was fine.

Couldn't recommend this pack highly enough enjoy!
Carlos A. Espinal
Excellent all-rounder.
I have spent the last summer hiking in the Pyrenees, hopping around the Greek islands and going to business trips. The bag fits each of these travels styles fantastically. The suspension system is the most comfortable I have tried and it held perfectly fine running up and down mountain peaks with lots of gear. It's compactness worked great when flying and and commuting. It was light enough to use it as a day pack for picnics at the beach. After two months of beating the bag up, a rinse in the shower brought it back to perfect condition. Fitting it with extra hooks on the loops provided at the shoulders straps and frame allowed me to carry extra things on the outside - I love hanging my suits from these so they don't wrinkle as I walk. A bag with wheels would have not been adequate for hiking. A hiking backpack will not be the right tool for quick and cheap business travel around Eurrope. This one balances perfectly
Alec Henry
An excellent backpack
I just took this badboy on a 4 week trip to brazil for hiking, general travelling and seeing the olympics. I did the hike for the first 4 days of the trip and this bag was more than adequate and very comfy - despite the trails we were walking being extremely tough. I was carrying tent, sleeping bag, air bed clothes, a bladder and other supplies all inside the bag - note that was the limit of what could be accomodated.
After that - i did more conventional travelling around brazil using airports, coaches, taxis and other public transport and this bag was great. I ended up getting rid of the tent and sleeping bag so that I could carry other things. never had to check the bag and there are loops for a pad lock.
I'm so happy that I bought this bag for the trip - extremely durable and comfy and will be well used for other trips i take - I so prefer this to my wheely bag.

thanks Osprey

I use this backpack for two years now and it has been with me on numerous trips all over europe. I love it! My girlfriend got so jealous that i bought her one two and now travelling is pretty easy. We never check in luggage anymore since this pack is simply big enough. I do have the Farpoint 70 for longer travels but I hardly use it... Although the detachable daypack is a great addition, maybe that would be a good idea for the new version of the Farpoint 40, if possible... So if you are looking for a great pack that will help you travel easy... This is the one to pick. Besides getting a little dirty on the trips it still looks like new... very good quality...

Like an Oversized Daypack
I loved this backpack and used it as my main travel pack for a month's travel to Peru. It's really comfortable to carry around and had no problems whatsoever as a carry on luggage. The small size carried around 38L so it was a bit tight especially to close. Make sure you don't buy any large toiletry bags or packing cubes as it will make life more difficult to stuff everything in. But we managed to put in 2 packing cubes, a toiletry bag and other accessories without too much sweat. My wife wished that there were a few more small pockets to put small stuff like passports and keys but otherwise 5/5.

Watch the dimensions
A beautifully made pack, as per all Osprey stuff.

Watch out you don't over pack it though as at full stretch it measures 37cm thick - most airlines only accept thicknesses between 20 - 25cm.

Be warned!

world travel backapck
if your looking for a carry on, or just a small backpack for traveling the world, this is the bag! I am still wondering if i should have bought the 55L but i just put a day bag inside for when we go out. We have done 3 days hikes and gone aboard with this bag. Ultimately we bought this bag for traveling 1 year around the world. Its yet to disappoint. the only thing i added was an elastic bungee cord to the front as it has little external storage. The what apppear to be water bottle nets are useless as water bottle nets as the compression straps dont go over the middle to keep in place,....but over all 4.5/5 :)

No inside clip for keys
I'm on my second version of this bag, which I generally love. However, I am exceedingly disappointed that the latest model doesn't come with a clip in the small pocket for keeping the housekeeps in an easy to access location. Now I have to dig for them in the bottom of the pocket. :(

Man, This Bag!
I've been using the Farpoint 40 for a few years now and it has really served me well. Most of the travel I do is short-stay and this is the perfect pack for European travel with no checked bags: I bought the Farpoint 40 specifically to meet Ryanair's cabin restrictions and after extensive research found that this is the best bag of its type for Ryanair fliers. I use a few packing cubes to keep things neat and tidy, and have comfortably lived out of this bag for a week or more. The shoulder strap is perfect for hopping between busses, and I take out the backpack straps for longer walks. It hasn't shown any wear whatsoever despite a good bit of use and abuse. The only *only* thing about this bag that isn't perfect is that the flap covering the straps has a velcro panel for tucking it away, and it's difficult to fold the flap so that the velcro panels meet. But because it's tucked in firmly anyway it doesn't matter - I've never had it unravel.

Excellent travel pack
I have the older version of this pack having bought it for a number of years ago. The current version doesn't appear to be any different only cosmetic changes. It's a sturdy well thought out pack. I regularly fly Ryanair and occasionally with Easyjet using carryon luggage only and have never had a problem using this bag. The attention to detail is phenomenal as always with Osprey packs. I have tried various carryon bags in the past and this is definately the best. Well worth the money.

Lite Travelling
Love the space of this backpack. One part for clothes, one for office or travelling stuff. Also the possibility to use a locker for the zipper and: The pipe. The zipper closes and are hidden, so that nobody can open them quickly. The only thing I am wondering: How to hide the protection for the straps in the bottom in a fine way. The zipper doesn't open enough to roll it down. There could be an improvement.

Love it

(This review was left for a previous version of this product)

Excellent backpack for light , organised backpackers
Used the Farpoint 40 backpacking across Java, Bali, Flores and Australia over 3 months. Excellent option for light, organised backpackers. Easily fits airline carry-on requirements. Traveled wide range of international and domestic flights and had no trouble. Excellent internal compression straps to keep everything in place and reduce volume. Well made, durable material - especially the zips. Inside main compartment is a zipped section, ideal for medication or important documents. Laptop compartment could be used as another section to keep important objects safe. Overall, excellent option. (This review was left for a previous version of this product)

Farpoint 40
I have until now used the bag for business flying trips mainly. What I really like about the bag is the big volume that complies with allowed hand luggage sizes. I bought the back to be able to carry as much on my bag as would be allowed, and this is well done with this bag that suit good to me.
The only comment I have is that I tend to put my heavy 17" workstation in the main compartment instead of in the small room that is made for it. The reason is I like to have the heavy weight near my bag and not far away.
But still I am very happy about the bag, and I also really like the room/net inside which I use for shirts to avoid too many wrinkles. (This review was left for a previous version of this product)

Good quality for the price
Suitable as hand baggage when you do not want to travel with suitcases. Lot of space inside. I think it is even waterproof. (no rain cover needed) Accepted even by Asian airlines with strict dimensions for hand baggage. Would recommend! (This review was left for a previous version of this product)

Brilliant
Brilliant bag I got mine for a holiday as it is small enough to carry on the plane! For a small bag there is so much room and lots of pockets for everything you need! Easy and comfortable to carry fantastic product I'd recomend it to anyone!! 5/5 (This review was left for a previous version of this product)

That good we're buying another
Decided to travel light these days & after a short euro trip we're buying a second one as two will be ample for a week away with a small child.
Good quality & ease of use. (This review was left for a previous version of this product)

Perfect small backpack and so versatile
Bought two, one for me and one for my 9 year old for a 3 week trip around Italy.
It's versatility is what made it perfect for us. I zipped up the straps for the flight, clipped on the long carry handle occasionally as it's design makes it sit comfortably when walking, but mainly used it in traditional backpack style.
It's size was perfect for my daughter to carry now and again, and when she didn't want to I was able to easily carry two of them!
Best small backpack I've ever bought, I highly recommend! (This review was left for a previous version of this product)

One of the best investments I ever made
I bought the backpack for shorter trips (1-2 weeks) where I can take the basics, computer and wouldn t have to check in luggage. First of all: it is really comfortable. Thanks to all the straps you can really personalize it. There is a lot of space inside and also several pockets and compartments. Special straps allow you to prevent your goods from moving around. Ouside you have another compartment for the computer, which I would ve wished were inside, more towards my back due to weight distribution and also as protection, but it resulted to be quite useful on security checks on planes, since you dont have to open the whole backpack to put the computer off.
I am really happy with my Osprey. (This review was left for a previous version of this product)

Comfortable, practical, spacious & great for travel
I love this backpack so far - it is a great alternative to a carry on suitcase.
The backpack is light and highly functional - as well as being very comfortable to wear.

My experience with purchasing directly from Osprey was great too - the product arrived within 48 hours. (This review was left for a previous version of this product)

(This review was left for a previous version of this product)

Solid pack, but there's room for improvement
First, this is a solidly built pack. I've been traveling for 3 months and there are no signs of wear. No part of it could be called flimsy. I love that it is front loading and zips all the way open flat. The harness system is fantastic, and very comfortable, the feature to zip away the straps is very helpful too.

It has quite a few issues though. The laptop pouch is in the center of the pack, putting my heaviest piece of gear 5-6 inches away from my back which makes for poor weight distribution. Having the laptop pouch in the center also means any bulge or bump in the larger compartment distorts the pouch into a concave shape, which is made worse by the compression straps, not good. I'm always nervous that by pulling those straps tight, I'm putting extra bending pressure on my laptop. This configuration really makes the entire front pocket mostly useless, unless your main compartment is empty. The lower compression straps go right over the front mesh pockets, so you can forget about keeping a water bottle in there. The "top stash pocket" can't hold anything at all when the larger compartment is full because there's no room to tuck it into the front pocket.

Lastly, and to me most importantly, when fully packed (but not straining) this bag does NOT comply with Ryanair cabin luggage requirements. Even with my laptop out so I wasn't worried about the compression straps it is just not small enough to fit inside their sizing boxes... AND I have the S/M frame size.

My suggestion would be to get rid of the front compartment entirely, make one large open compartment like suitcases have. Keep the "top stash pocket" since it could now dangle into the large compartment. Move the mesh bottle pockets to the sides, on the outside of the compression straps. Move the laptop pouch up against the wearer's back with a lockable side access zipper.

I would love to give this pack 4 stars, its a well built pack with a few great features. But it just doesn't live up to the claims it makes and needs some reconfiguration. (This review was left for a previous version of this product)

Almost, perfect, but not quite...!
I'm an avid traveller, and like to do it light! Hopping onto buses and boats, and being able to travel without checked luggage is high priority for me, which is why I bought the farpoint. Since purchasing it I have travelled to many different countries from a long weekend to five weeks, and the overall size and capacity of Farpoint 40 as always been spot on. I have never had the need to check it as it's always satisfied the hand luggage requirements of every airline I've travelled with, although it is important to check the depth - as for some airlines - Ryanair and several in Asia they limit that to 20cm, which means you need a well packed flat bag, and the compression straps really help with that! Farpoint is also incredibly comfortable to carry, when I've been stranded without a bus I'll happily walk relatively long distances with this bag fully packed, as it really is comfy.

On the downsides though...
1) the front pocket includes a laptop 'sleeve', this isn't the best placing for it - ideally I'd want this right next to my back, and accessed without removing all the contents from the rucksuck
2) The inside mesh pocket is too large! You put anything in there and it all falls to the bottom when you shut the bag, which makes that nice flat bag hard to create. Ideally this would be several smaller pockets - and it would be great to have at least one that isn't mesh to hold smaller items in.
3) The front pockets aren't the most useful - you have the padded laptop sleeve, and a pocket with side, however you can only fit flat things in them really, and all of this adds weight to the bag which I'm just not using.
4) Mesh pockets on the front of the bag I think are designed for drinks? If so they are useless!! You might possibly fit a tiny bottle in there if you're lucky, but they do make good shoe pockets. I'd love to see a drinks bottle pocket on the side of this bag - I think its a massive downfall of it!
5) I'd love for this bag to make airport travel a little easier - accessing your plastic bag of lotions and potions is a bit of a faff - opening the zips involves undoing the compression straps, then the zip, it would be good to have an easy access pocket to get round this issue.

All in all I'm sticking with the Farpoint for now, because I can't find anything better, but I really hope to see some improvements in a future version :-) (This review was left for a previous version of this product)

Ottimo acquisto
Nel complesso un ottimo prodotto e all'apparenza molto resistente (This review was left for a previous version of this product)

Comodo, capiente e leggero
This review was left for a previous version of this product)

I bought this backpack to for office and travel and I really like it so far. Some things I just did not understand:;

My only cons are;
1: The water bottle mesh pockets are far too small to actually utilise.

I'm so happy that I bought this bag for the trip - extremely durable and comfy and will be well used for other trips i take - I so prefer this to my wheely bag.

thanks Osprey

everywhere

Jane

Kevin
Excellent travel pack
I have the older version of this pack having bought it for a number of years ago. The current version doesn't appear to be any different only cosmetic changes. It's a sturdy well thought out pack. I regularly fly Ryanair and occasionally with Easyjet using carryon luggage only and have never had a problem using this bag. The attention to detail is phenomenal as always with Osprey packs. I have tried various carryon bags in the past and this is definately the best. Well worth the money.
Doris

Bev
