Aether AG is designed for multi-day backpacking and carrying significant loads. The backsystem combines the comfort and ventilation of Osprey's multi-award-winning AG AntiGravity™ backsystem with the custom-mouldable fit of Osprey's next generation IsoForm™ hipbelt. A sprung mesh lumbar area, combined with stiff load bars integrated into the harness allows for impressive load transfer through the large muscle groups in the legs, enabling an even and comfortable backpacking experience.

just the job
ive bought this for a 40 mile 5 day trek in the cairngorms in scotland, out the box this pack is quality, the materials used are tough and the zips have large ring pulls,so even with gloves on you can get into the pack, living in the uk im very pleased that it comes with a rain cover, the pack feels really comfortable when on and the AG system fools you into thinking you are carrying less weight than you actually are, overall am very happy with my osprey aether ag 70,the lifetime guarantee does this product justice, it wont last you a lifetime but it wont fail on you in 6 months either,THE BEST RUCKSACK IVE EVER BOUGHT .

my best back pack so far
I bought my Aether 70 more then 10 years ago. It does its job excellent. Really sticks to the back without being sticky (in wet). I have used backpack almost every year and it survived airplane -(punishments) , foul weather and lots of rocks. It shows now some wear, still not enough to buy a new one :-(
This backpack is my first big pack that easily can be adjusted to carry less then its 70 liters in a comfortable way

Great, but surprise with daypack
A very good backpack.
I trekked for 3 weeks with it in India as first use, and it was very useful in all occasion. But as many european user I was disappointed to discover there's no daypack.
Maybeyou could help your customer by sending them this daypack, or offer discount on this daypack for european customer, or create something to transform 'hat' of the pack in a messenger bag or something like that.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Seb,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Aether AG 70.

It is great to hear that found the Aether AG to be very useful on your recent trip.

We appreciate your feedback on the Day Pack, the decision was made to include a Raincover and not a DayLid in the European model. This pack is compatible with our Daylite range, or alternatively you could use our Stuff Pack, which condenses down to the size of an apple.

Regards,

Osprey Customer Service

Brilliant bag - not far from perfect.
Within seconds of wearing this bag I was in love, it's literally sticks to my back and has no weight to it. The fact it has a rain cover instead of a day pack is much better in my eyes we live in Europe it rains near on everywhere all the time I can easily see why as a company you decided to go with it. Plus the fact that you can simply purchase a day lite plus bag which with ease clips straight onto the front of my Aether bag.
Kind Regards. Thanks for the bag.

No information about missing daypack :(
I really wanted this bag, but without the Daylid i'm not getting it. A raincover (that can easily be bought anywhere) is not a good substitute!
I wasted lots of time during research and only discovered the missing bag by chance in the store.
You really should have made this clear for your potential customers :(
Osprey Customer Service,

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

We appreciate your feedback on the Aether AG 70. On our website, each pack has a full list of all of its features. In Europe, featuring an integrated raincover is more important than featuring a detachable daypack. This decision was made following considerable research with our athletes, partners, consumers and Osprey retailers.

However, the Aether AG and Ariel AG are compatible with our Daylite series, allowing you to easily attach these daypacks onto the front of the backpacks. We also offer an Ultralight Stuff Pack which can be compressed to the size of an apple and weighs only 90g. Though we appreciate that the lack of a Daylid may seem a shame for some users, we feel that it is of greater benefit to be able to offer a raincover and more affordable SRP for the many backpackers who will not use the DayLid feature.

Osprey Customer Service

Missing daylid pack
The backpack seems great , pretty light and very comfortable.
Was very surprised to see there was no daylid pack because it was one of the main reasons I decided to buy the bag.
A rain cover I can buy anywhere but the daylid I can't . Very disappointed..
Osprey Customer Service,

Hello,

This decision was made not to have the DayLid following considerable research with our athletes, partners, consumers and Osprey retailers. However, you can purchase alternate Daypacks as the Aether AG and Ariel AG is compatible with our Daylite series, allowing you to easily attach these Daypacks onto the front of the backpack. We also offer an Ultralight Stuff Pack which can be compressed to the size of an apple and weighs only 90g.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us at care@ospreyeurope.com.

Missing Daylid backpak
After seeing the review en video https://www.bever.nl I bought the back pack. Its great but I am missing the dayback. Its in the product specs, but I read a story on your site about EU vs VS?? Are these not compatible and can it be orderd? Are we paying the same price for a product with less functionality?
Osprey Customer Service,

Hello,

Aether and Ariel AG are sold in Europe with a raincover, rather than the Daylid feature offered in the USA. This decision was made following considerable research with our athletes, partners, consumers and Osprey retailers.

In Europe, featuring an integrated raincover is more important than featuring a detachable daypack. Though we appreciate that the lack of a Daylid may seem a shame for some users, we feel that it is of greater benefit to be able to offer a raincover and more affordable SRP for the many backpackers who will not use the DayLid feature.

DayLid
I understand that the decision was made not to include the DayLid on the Aether, but i was wondering if we would be able to purchase it separately.

Thanks.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Nathan,

The Daylid is not available in Europe as part of the pack or an addition.

Disappointing! One step forward (AG added), one step back (no DayLid or even lumbar pack?!?!)
The good:
AG features is really comfortable with heavy loading, minimum load on shoulder.
The bad:
Top lid (DayLid) for the Europe version is useless!
I can accept due to different reasons the feature to convert the lid into a daypack isn't available.
However taking the lumbar pack conversion back for the new model is disappointing!
Does Osprey Europe expecting me to hold the top lid with my hands like a handbag when I go for a day walk?
I would expect a bit more by paying this amount of money for a backpack.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

The decision was made to not have the DayLid feature for a number of different reasons, the main of which being that on the previous model the pack came with a similar feature but instead of the lid converting into a daypack it converted into a lumbar pack. This feature added extra costs to the pack and from the research that we have conducted, this feature was not used. The cost of the pack is as such because there is a lot of research and development that goes into the backsystem. Plus, the European version of the Aether/Ariel series comes with a Raincover which we believe to be more useful than the US version which has the DayLid.

The lid of the pack is removeable so that the weight of the pack can be stripped down if the user wishes to do so; we do not expect users to carry this with them. The pack has a Flapjacket which can be used to protect the contents without the lid on the pack. The series is compatible with the Daylite which works as a suitable alternative, however, if you do not want to add another pack onto the front of your pack we also have our Stuff Pack which will fit in most, if not all, pockets on the Aether and Ariel AG.

If you have any more questions please email our Customer Care Team.

Buy it if you live in US
The good:
Good material, good load distribution quite comfortable
The bad:
For Europe the detachable hip belt is useless, as only one size is sold with the pack. And there are no shops in EU that sell other size. If it fits you, than good. If not, look to elsewhere.
Also the hood for Europe variant is useless. You cannot use it as day pack. Why would you make it detachable?
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Sorin,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

You are correct in saying we do not sell the hipbelts separately, however, if you find that the hipbelt is too short then we can supply a larger size but this is subject to stock levels and you would need to contact our Guarantee Team.

As for the DayLid that you are referring to, the decision was made to not include this feature for a number of different reasons, the main of which being: on the previous model, the pack came with a similar feature, but instead of the lid converting into a daypack it converted into a lumbar pack. This feature added extra cost to the pack and from the research that we have done, this feature was not readily used.

On the US version of the Aether AG and Ariel AG, the pack has a DayLid but does not come with a Raincover, we felt that a Raincover would be more useful as the series is still compatible with the Daylite which works as a suitable alternative. If you do not want to add another pack onto the front of your pack we also have a Stuff Pack which will fit in most (if not all) pockets on the Aether AG and Ariel AG.

The pack still has a removable lid as it has a FlapJacket to protect the contents of the pack when the lid has been removed; removing the lid of this pack will make it lighter and shorter.

Osprey Customer Service
