great backpack
Only the second backpack I have owned (unless you include the rucksack with which i toured Scotland in the 60's). A brilliant design, lots of thought has clearly gone into every detail, I love the retractable key-ring in a small side compartment. My only criticisms are:
1) bulky items in the front 'organiser' compartment protrude back into the main compartment, so there is less space available in there
2) When out shopping it is impossible to access any of the compartments to put purchases in, whilst the pack is still on my back. With a bit of a struggle I can just get stuff in the side compartments designed for bottles, but this is not a secure area!
Osprey Customer Service,

Great pack for commuting
Really love the pack for commuting with laptop, lunch, change of clothes and waterproofs. Lots of useful storage throughout the bag and well compartmentalised sections to keep things organised. The only drawback that I have is when I have the pack half empty or less (i.e. not very full) and I need to use the integrated rain cover (also an awesome addition!), the toggle to adjust the elastic is located right at the bottom of the bag between the bag and my back. This creates a hard point which is very uncomfortable even for shorter rides.

Just a cracking, functional pack
I bought the Momentum 26 as a direct replacement for my older Momentum 22. I loved the older bag and dare I say it, the new one appears to be better made. I commute by bike 3 times a week on a 50 mile round trip, so comfort and the ability to carry a laptop safely are paramount. When choosing the new bag, I looked at other brands but knew the build quality of the Osprey and didn't want to chance a lesser product. Already, The 26 fits the back better than the older bag and I'm less aware of the weigh of the laptop when its on my back. I didn't need an additional 4 litre of carrying space but its a welcome addition when i have my weekly kit on a Monday. Laptop, towel, jeans, Polo shirt, lunch, wallet, phone, the usual. I loved the placement of the key fob on the old bag which sat on the shoulder strap, the new key fob is slightly harder to access but allows a larger set of keys and is more robust, so just a case of getting used to it. Everything internally works well and there is a pocket for all your gadgets and bike spares if you want to keep them off the bike.
The back is better ventilated than the old pack, which was good enough. Can't really say much more, its spot on and does a great job. Ow, the rain cover is easier to access on the new bag as its at the front as opposed to being on the underside, which does make a difference. Great pack.

Not as expected
I bought this bag as a replacement of my flare 22, I was after a slightly bigger bag that offered plenty or compartments. I am disappointed to say that I can fit less on this bag than on he previous model I had. I carry my 13inc mac, gym clothes, food, headphones and my keys. The bag is packed and it feel too rigid, not great for a day bag which is how I used to use my flare w2. Not worth the money!
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Drubio,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Momentum 26.

We are sorry to hear that you have found that the Momentum 26 does not offer as much space as your Flare 22. The Momentum 26 has 4L more capacity than the Flare 22, and we would recommend checking that the compression straps are fully loosened, as this can effect the internal size.

The Flare 22 does not have a technical backsystem, therefore, will feel softer and lighter than the AirScape backsystem on the Momentum, this may be why you have initially found your Momentum to feel quite rigid? However, over time the AirScape backsystem will become more flexible with use.

Not the Osprey I used to know and love
I got this backpack as a warranty replacement for an old Momentum I had. Despite being the same size (at least on paper), the backpack is far from being as functional as the previous model. The 2016 model I got is practically worthless as a day backpack.
I often travel with a 13" macbook pro, the charger, a couple of pens, earbuds, cellphone, a small A5 notebook and often some A4 papers from articles I have to read (20 pages maximum). Surprise surprise, but even when I make an effort to have everything properly organised, I find it almost impossible to fit anything else without putting an absurd amount of pressure on my mac. As this is a cycling backpack (or at least it is supposed to), during winter, I often have a sweater for when I arrive to the office, and some food as well. A small food box is almost impossible to carry, meaning that I have to use my bicycle side bags to carry it, and a sweater has to be absurdly well folded in order to fit.
To summarise it:
Laptop compartment - works as long as you don't put anything on the smaller laptop compartment in the middle section of the backpack. It also takes way too much space from the things in the middle compartment. It looks almost as if it is too narrow to fit a rather thin laptop. So far it only worked with an iPad, and when I've once tried to use the entire space available for the backpack, I ended up damaging my mac due to pressure.
Middle section - it doesn't fit much. Also all the small pockets are quite pointless as they "steal" too much space from other sections as well.
Front Pocket - as the outer part of the backpack seems to be slightly rigid, anything put inside, takes space from the middle section of the backpack. With the previous one, this never happened.

I've bought my first Osprey (Kestrel) in 2010. It was an amazing, perfect backpack. Traveled around the world with it, and it still looks as good as new except for some normal wear and tear. It was comfortable, and I never had any issues with storage. Then I bought the momentum and later another kestrel (slightly bigger than the first). I never had a single complaint except for now. It seems that they tried to make an ultra slim backpack, for reasons I can't understand, destroying what was a perfect backpack for commuting and cycling.

I feel that I'm left with a backpack I can't use, and I'm considering on searching for alternatives outside of Osprey. It's a pity as even my girlfriend who owns as well osprey backpacks, sees how frustrating it is to use this current model.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Momentum 26.

We are sincerely sorry that you have not found the Momentum 26 to be as good as the older version you owned, as you have found this pack to have limited space. The Momentum 26 has been designed to hold a capacity of 26L, you may find that the Momentum 32 is a better size for your needs, as this has an extra 6L capacity.

Also, both sizes of Momentum have side compression straps, if these are loosened you will find that this will give you more space inside the pack, compared to when they are tightened.

We will pass your feedback on the laptop sleeve and middle compartment on to our Design Team as we are constantly looking for ways to improve our packs for future models.
