Kamber ABS 42

The Kamber ABS 42 combines Osprey design, fit and innovation with ABS® Vario compatibility and safety. The quick access avalanche safety kit pocket with shovel handle and probe sleeves means you're covered for any eventuality. Designed to be at home in the mountains, the compression molded backpanel is built with snow shedding properties. Backpanel entry means you can quickly access the main compartment without having to take your pack off. Your gear is stored separately in two quick-access main compartments. One for wet gear - shovel blade, handle, probe & ski skins and one for Dry - extra clothing and warm headwear. Rig your skis on either the side of the pack or diagonally. Utilise the vertical or horizontal backpanel carry for your board. On longer climbs and tours you will appreciate the rapid deploy helmet carry and insulated hydration routing through the shoulder harness. The top lid has a large storage pocket and a webbing compressor for carrying a rope beneath it. As an added bonus, when you need a fully featured ski pack without ABS protection; the Kamber can be used without the Vario system meaning that your pack is more versatile and can be used for the entire season.

First of all this is by far the best ABS Zip-On I ever had. And I tried a few! Most of the rest is really crap.

The Kamber comes with a regular base unit, so you can decide until last minute whether to go with or without ABS support. One does it all pack! I really like the helmet attachment which lets you access all compartments also with helmet attached as well as some nice details like the rope fixation under the lid and the insulated shoulder belt for the drinking hose. A very big advantage is that you can access the main compartment from the back plate, so you can easily access stuff which is at the very bottom of the pack. A little improvement could be done here by changing the suspension of the drinking bladder, cause it bends down the zipper of the back plate so it closes and opens with difficulties when the bladder is full.

This brings me to some further improvements:
1, THE COLOR! Please offer the pack in the same colors as the non-ABS pack. Black is so outdated. (OK, that's a very subjective point :))
2, Add some more length to the lower suspension for the ski/snowboard fixation, so it can be used for further compression of the pack if not full
3, Also the whole ski fixation system is not very lean with a lot of big plastic buckles. Maybe provide a cable for diagonal fixation.
4, An outside compartment for crampons would be nice.

I just love this back pack as everything is in the right place, all avalanche gear goes in the front along with my skins. The access zip to get in the back is awesome, plus straps to A frame my skis, pockets for gloves and goggles. Just works and a few jealous glances from my fellow ski mountaineer friends.

Love the backpack.
I'm using it for tools in my line of work instead of a toolbox and it works great.
The material is rough and I don't see any marking of strain.
The only remark is that the 42l is a really big pack, so make sure to use the right size.
