I've just tested out my new pack with a 9 day hike along a part of the South West Coast Path. I mostly love it, my previous pack was an Ariel 55 so i was impressed how much more comfortable the support system is on this Aura 50. The main annoyance was the hip belt pockets which open easy enough but I just can't close them with one hand whilst wearing the pack, perhaps its the angle, they were't over filled. The rain cover provided is much too small, once i have my tent attached and the side pockets filled it barely covers the front of the pack, this is very disappointing. Otherwise, I love it
Not sure it’s as good as the old aura 50
I had an older aura 50 for 15 years. It has done 100s of kilometres and was only just starting to wear. I thought it was time to get a new one so opted for the new model of Aura 50, now with the AG system. I don’t notice any difference in terms of supporting the weight - both are great at this. But I do feel there are some good features of the old aura that have been lost. I miss having the two external zipped pockets on the front (now only available in the 65), and the new AG back system takes up more room so the pack looks bulkier and sits higher above my head (I’m only 162cm).
Premetto che avevo già un altro zaino di questa marca, ma un 26litri. Ho girato un pò e provato altre marche.. e niente... la vestibilità di questo zaino è strepitosa! .. Come il piccolo d'altronde! E' davvero molto comodo, agevole, resistente.
Bravissimi!
Super comfy, but...
This rucksack is incredibly comfortable, even when fully loaded. The waistband is almost miraculous - once it hugs around you you don't feel the weight anymore. The removable top section is useful too - I usually use the bag without it. The top section itself is a little small - you can't get much in it, but I think that's outweighed by having the option to remove it altogether.
However... the rucksack easily feels unbalanced. I carried a small water bottle in one of the side pockets, and really noticed that I didn't have the same weight on the other side. I had to move the bottle to stop it being uncomfortable. Also, it's completely impossible to open the waistband pockets one handed - and almost two handed! Something about the angle of them means you just can't reach. Such a shame as they're the perfect place for things you want close at hand. Defeats the object if you can't open the pockets!
Overall though, this is a great bag - worth the money just for the comfort factor.
Nice but lacking
All in all my wife thinks that this is a great pack but the side pockets are not large enough to hold a 1 liter Nalgene bottle. Who in the design department thougt that it was a good idea to make it smaller than that. Almost any other brand of back pack will have room for a 1 liter Nalgene. I have the Atmos 50 and there is plenty of room for a 1 liter Nalgene. The only reason we did not return this pack is because the rest of the features are spot on
Not proportionate in the XS
I LOVE the way this pack distributes and carries the weight. It can be difficult to get on as the waist belt (at least in the extra small) is so curved and stiff that it requires maneuvering into. .
Unfortunately 1) the waist belt pockets are impossible to access with one hand and difficult with two, can barely reach the zippers to get them started. 2) The top closure system to requires 2 hands and repeated efforts to get it open all the way. 3) The black piping all around where the waist belt emerges DIGS into my hipbone. I don't have a lot of meat there and without extra padding/modification, it's painful. 4) the two buckles on the back of the pack that adjust the position of the top sectional require two hands and threading of the webbing, not a lengthen/shorten with one push/pull.
Great backpack for mutiday trips
Got one via SecondLife (as new conditions). The backpack was really 'as new'! Only thing I could find is that the rain cover wasn't folded nicely haha. The backpack has the perfect size (size S, I'm 1.60). Plenty of room for multiday trips / hikes, good thing to notice is that it has 2 pockets less on the front compared to the bigger size (60L). Wasn't a problem though, have plenty of the small sacks.
Great backpack! Just wondering how many packing cubes M will fit in the backpack. What are the inside measurements?
Love the pack, but the colour
My daughter and I borrowed these and fell in love with the packs because the aura's extremely comfortable even with a heavy load. But the colors gave us the creeps. Terribly sorry, we really tried but never got used to the shiny silver (white on a rucksack?) or the weird green. I would buy two packs today if it came in the Atmos-colors!
