Porter 30

Safe Travels. With padded sidewalls, convenient organisation and a substantial suspension for backpack-style carry that hides away at airline check-in, the Porter Series has set the standard for deluxe duffels. Porter features a dedicated zippered laptop and tablet pocket, functional storage options for items both big and small and a large front panel access for easy packing.

StraightJacket™ compression straps with padded sidewalls to help protect your bag's contents and allow you to fit more gear or compress the bag to a smaller size when it isn't fully stuffed.

The Porter 30 harness and hipbelt deploy at a moment's notice for backpack style carry and quickly disappear into the backpanel for safe keeping when your bags are checked.

Structural sidewalls hold your bag open, making it easy to pack and unload, especially with the large U-zip opening. Dedicated, easily accessible pockets provide on-the-go access to key items. Travelling is about experience and memories, and you'll have more time for both when you spend less time packing.

When a duffel isn’t enough and backpacking bags are too much, the Porter 30 is the answer.

On the plane again
Great pack, doe everything I wanted, however could do with a better way to carry a water botttle
As someone who loves the outdoor life I and my family have adopted osprey as the brand of choice having tried many other manufacturers over the years. Now that I travel extensively for work I looked to osprey to fulfill my luggage needs and having their 40 litre roll along, and as using a 26 litre commuter pack. I have swapped that commuter pack for this which fits perfectly under the seat, carries my laptop, books and pens easily and still has plenty of space for case overflow or what ever law I need to carry. My only complaint is that as a traveller I always have a water bottle and there is no ice real place to carry it, right now it’s on a carabiner on the shoulder strap hook that then unbalanced the load.

Colour discrepancy
The 4 star rating is perhaps not 100% fair because the bag is as good as most other reviewers say that it is.

But I am regretting not buying the safe black model but instead going for the green model based on the colours on the web site. The actual bag is a lighter shade than that in the photos (which appear to be to be a less pastel-like look that I would have preferred). As JP wrote in his comment it would have been useful to see the bag in real life in order to decide if the colour of the bag is (sorry for the non-PC comment) “manly” enough.

Excellent quality, quick delivery, reasonable priced
Really impressed - excellent quality, reasonable priced. Would be good if could have view it in a shop beforehand

Great bag
High quality bag that fits a lot of stuff. Used it for a short city trip and fitted the Transavia hand luggage regulations perfectly. Plenty of useful compartments makes it very organised. For my short trip the carrying comfort was more than fine.
Bob
Awesome bag
Great bag for it's purpose: travel. Fits plenty of things. I used this bag as my only bag for a three week trip to Japan and it was great. I would recommend a day bag though!
Nicolas

So many handy compartments
I bought this pack as hand luggage for a trip abroad. My main requirement was that it had to be big enough for a memory foam cushion (rolled up) to fit inside, and still be able to access all my other things easily. The clam-shell main compartment is really roomy and has 2 pockets to keep smaller items safe, as well as all the external pockets and I was able to access everything I needed really easily. the laptop section has a really big pocket inside it too which was really handy to keep my iPad and chargers organised. When flying, I prefer to keep my hand-luggage under the seat in front of me so I can access things when I need them rather than continually standing up (I'm a fidget!) It fitted under the seat really easily and i was actually able to rest my feet inside the compression 'wings' too so this was a bonus!

The quality of the components is excellent, as we would expect from Osprey.

I was, however, a bit disappointed with the comfort when carrying it. I never really filled it to full capacity but it still made my back ache when walking through the airport (I didn't use it for hiking or anything). It felt like the bag was tipping slightly no matter how long or short I had the straps / waist strap - a slight redesign would make it perfect. (For context: I am 5'6" and about UK size 12/14 on my shoulders, so fairly average for a female!)

I will definitely use the bag again for future trips as the organisation and quality is so good.

Great overall
This is a great backpack. Excelent quality!

Brilliant!
I’ve used my backpack twice now, first time was for a 5 hour hill climb and the second was as my hand luggage going on holiday. I found it really comfortable with loads of space within the main compartment as well as plenty of useful pockets. It’s really nice to be able to hide away the waist straps if you aren’t needing them. The construction is very good, with good quality material, good thick padded handles and really good zips.
One useful addition to the backpack would be a simple strap across the back so it can be slipped over the handle of a suitcase handle.

Excellent quality
This is a beautifully made backpack, which I bought to go with the Daylite Plus. With the two attached to each other I was able to take them on a plane as hand luggage with no questions asked. Nevertheless the Porter 30 has plenty of capacity, and some interesting side pockets. My only quibbles are as follows: although both packs are described as grey, they are completely different colours. I had to watch the video numerous times to understand how the two packs attached to each other. It would be nice if each pack had fitments on the back, like the Momentum which I also own, to fit a cycle helmet and back light.

Fantastic product, exemplary customer service.
The product is great, a present for my daughter, which she loves. I had a few issues with delivery and return (because my daughter changed her mind about the colour). Suffice it to say that the communication, customer service, and handling of my "complaint" was outstanding and very much appreciated - an example to all - many thanks.

Nearly perfect, but no
Shoulder straps a bit too light. Could be more rugged and heavier. Material in shoulder and waist strap could and should be different. The backpack it self is excellent quality.
The backpack has enough space to load it too heavy.
Can recommend easily.

Truly great
The Osprey Porter 30 is a terrific backpack.
I bought it for my fiancé, he is absolutely enthusiastic about it.
The backpack is ideal for short trips (about 4/5 days) and it has enough space for all the essentials.
I absolutely recommend it!

Perfect to travel
Good size and has all the expected features on a bag like this. Perfect size for cabin luggage, keeps everything in place and safe!
Peter
Great travel pack
Bought this mainly to use as a cabin bag when travelling. Haven’t flown with it yet but have used it fo a quick overnight stay and found it excellent. It’s well made like other Osprey rucksacks I have, my only comment is that I would prefer a wider waist strap similar to other Osprey rucksacks.
Tommy
Superb
Superb backpack alrhough a meshpocket on the one outerside would make it even more superb
Jadiel
Almost Perfect
That was an expensive backpack, however it’s very well made. We can see the material, zips, straps have a high standard quality. It’s comfortable and the size is perfect even if you are traveling for a long period of time. It helps you do not overpack.
I only have a single thing to complain about, It’s the fact I can not lock all zips. I wish that I could because I’m always in hosteis or taking all kinds of transportation around the world and I do not trust to leave my belongs inside the pockets without a pad lock and between the 5 pockets in this backpack only two I can lock.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Jadiel,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for the Porter 30.

I'm pleased to hear that overall, you are very satisfied with the pack! However, I am sorry to hear that you are concerned about some of the smaller pockets that are not lockable. I would recommend taking a look at our Airporter covers here. An Airporter cover will allow you to protect, cover and lock the entire pack whilst you are using public transport.

Kind Regards,

Osprey Customer Service

Great for business trips or urban holidays
Very well thought for travelling. Easy access to the laptop and liquid bag at airport safety checks. Handles and zips are robust and very well placed.
Perfect size for one week business trip or for visiting cities.
Obviously, it is not a trekking/sport bag and long walks, fully loaded may not be very comfortable
Dan
Apprehensive to spend so much but so happy!
After taking a long while to look at reviews, I eventually went for the Porter 30 in Castle Grey. The bright green lining makes things easy to discern inside the bag, and the outer colour is less grey and more cams green. Love it, but maybe change the name of the colour? Anyway, the bag itself is fantastic. Not much bigger than my old bag but can hold the same contents in its front pocket. The main compartment is stupidly spacious with two pockets either side (one mesh, one opaque) to hold various bits and bobs. The laptop compartment is perfect. Plenty of padding and an extra zip sleeve inside it lets you put a book or some wires in too. The various strap combos make the bag stupidly useful. I use it with only one shoulder strap out. You can change the combination in about 10 seconds though. Waste straps tuck away in the same fashion. The top pocket is super useful and somewhat hidden - it's pretty hard to discern there's a zip under that flap. It's easily accessible so I keep my sunglasses, a book and my wallet in there. The wrap around straps help secure everything and help the bag stand up on its own. Makes it really comfortable on your back and it was nice to feel the weight distributes nicely rather than all sitting on my lower bag (the bag has lots of padding here anyways). It's a good all round bag whether you want it for travel, work or hiking. If you're pondering purchasing this bag, go for it. You won't regret it.

Great pack with surprising capacity.
This is a great pack. It fits so much more than it looks like it will fit. I used it for a week away and was also able to fit a roller in. It is comfortable to carry. The only thing missing is external pouches for water bottles.

Excellent bag
I purchased this bag for a family holiday we had a few months back for our travels around Sri Lanka and India. This bag is not just any normal bag, it can hold so much and is extremely versatile. It has the most useful compartments and was super useful for our trip. Am looking forward to further trips! Extremely practical bag, stores laptop, ipads and accessories with ease. Great bag and super robust, hands down best purchase I have made!

Top!
Great backpack for business trips by plane!
Very practical for all your personal stuff and laptop + easy to wear.
I have yet a lot of Ospreys at home but this one is without any doubt one of my favorites.

Only bad luck for me that there was no action ongoing when I bought it. I just detected the May-action after receiving a mail from your side regarding my feedback.
