Best one-day backpack ever!
I’m wearing backpacks since childhood and it’s been a constant problem to find the one that fits my athletic body with big breasts (quite a challenge!). I first tried Tempest 9 for skiing and I loved it. So I decided to get a full one-day backpack version and tested it in backcountry hiking in Utah. Together with my husband having Talon 22 we managed to pack all the gear necessary for overnight camping for 2 people, including the tent, sleeping pads and bags, cooking gear and warm clothes. So we used these backpacks to the maximum. And I have to admit that it absolutely served its purpose as the most comfortable backpack ever. Even my usual back pain was dormant despite intensive hiking with quite heavy backpack. The only downgrade I found is that the upper pocket did not survived carrying a regular pen in it (no sharp endings) - there are two respective holes appeared on both sides where the pen was. So the material was not designed for things like that. That’s a little bit disappointing because people tend to have small items like pen in these pockets. I had also a lens cleaner there and it is in the form of a thick pen. So probably I should place such items in a separate, more durable bag, which will add additional weight and take some space. Otherwise, it is the best backpack I have ever had for almost 40 years. And I plan to go for a bigger version for 3-4 days hike.

Perfect !

best backpack for day hikes
This backpack is great. The 20l size is absolutely perfect for day hikes. It easily fits a rain jacket, water, food and whatever else you may need. I recently discovered it also has a designated space for a hydration pack. I took the Tempest on a trip to Scotland to hike the West Highland Way. It was way more comfortable than any normal sports backpack I took hiking before.

Another great thing about this backpack is that it is tailored towards women. That makes it very easy to carry around all day without any back or hip pain. It also has many pockets to store all the little things that would otherwise end up at the bottom of your pack.

I would recommend this backpack to anyone who wants to go on day hikes and needs a bag that is durable, fits all their gear and is comfortable to carry around all day.

Un super compagnon de voyage à acquérir sans hesitation
Avis tres tres favorable. Ce sac à dos doit etre l’equipement indispensable du routard .ultra leger bien concu il est ideal
Je ne regrette nullement son acquisition et le recommande vivement

Excellent product
I recently took this backpack to Nepal with me and its performance was great, it didn't let me down. I used it everyday, finding the small pockets and compartments really useful; when I went on longer day walks I was so impressed that the rucksack spread the weight of its contents well and the bag didn't feel heavy despite carrying bottles of water in it. The adjustability of the straps contributed to the overall suitability of this bag for me, and as it's designed for women, I really appreciated the positioning of the chest strap - didn't dig in or look ridiculous as other packs do. Love this bag and will consider buying a larger one for future trips.

Me gustó el artículo
Pero La correa es muy corta para La cadera. Otra pregunta,es impermeable???
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Analía,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Tempest 20.

I am sorry to hear that you have found the hipbelt is too short, our Guarantee Team handle all our spare part requests, including Hipbelt Extensions, and will be happy to assist.

All of our packs are made with waterproof materials. For a material to be considered waterproof it needs to have a HH (Hydrostatic Head) rating of at least 1000mm. All of our materials are coated so that they have a minimum HH rating of 1500mm. However, we always recommend that a rain cover is used in wet weather conditions as water can still get in through zips and other similar openings. For the Tempest 20 we would recommend the Ultralight Hi Vis Raincover XS.

Thanks for the answer earlier. The length of the backpack is fine. But the hip band is too short. Even when I've expanded it to the fullest.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Andrea,

Apologies for the misunderstanding regarding the hipbelt length, can I suggest that you contact our Guarantee Department who will be more than happy to send out a hipbelt extension for your Tempest.

I hope this helps.

Do you have a larger size than WS/WM (16-20in) WS/WM (41-51cm). But still the Tempest 20 model?
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Andrea,

The Tempest 20 is only available in the one size. However, if you would like a longer backlength and want to keep the same style of pack, the Talon series (male equivalent) should help you here and is still more than suitable for female users.

Great pack
Love the Osprey packs! I have one of the older Osprey backpacks designed women, and am currently looking for a pack for everyday use, when commuting to work. As I am not a large person, the usual S/M packs are just that little bit too long for my back for it to sit comfortably. I really wish you would sell the XS/S size packs in Europe as I'm sure I am not the only petite woman this side of the pond.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we appreciate your feedback.

We do not currently stock XS/S as we have found this not to be a popular size in the past, however this is something we will consider for the future.

Made for Women
Well, I'm small chested but I find the curved shape annoying. I have the Osprey Talon 22 as well which has unisex straps, which I prefer but I bought the Tempest 20 as I wanted a more compact shape and size wise it's better. I'm long in the body and find it less long than the Talon. However, I find that unless I'm wearing several layers, the back pad digs into my back, which is uncomfortable. However perhaps I'm not adjusting it correctly as there are so many straps! It is light compared to other products and I use the bike helmet section to carry items which I can dig out without removing the rucksack! Whereas the Talon has two strap compartments for carrying snacks, the Tempest has only one, not sure why but the side pockets on the waist can carry dried fruits & nuts or energy bars, however don't put your keys in them as they will tear. The old style of Osprey was stronger. All in all though I find Osprey products best for long hikes. They are not waterproof though so a protective cover or a white bin bag inside is useful.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate your feedback and I will make sure that it is passed on.

However, the current Talon 22 and the Tempest 20 should have identical features. Please email Care@ospreyeurope.com if you have any concerns.

As for the keys in the hipbelt pockets, we do not recommend this as both the Talon and the Tempest have key attachment clips inside the pack to keep your keys safe and secure so that they don't get lost.

Please see here for information on how to fit your pack, if you believe that you are not doing it correctly. Womens Fit does mean the pack is shorter and narrower.

Regards,

Osprey Customer Service.
