Radial 26

Outstanding. Work hard, but commute harder with the Radial. Featuring an AirSpeed™ trampoline suspended mesh backsystem this pack allows for great breathability when commuting in hot and humid conditions. The ventilated stretch yoke and load lifters on the harness combined with the elastic hipbelt wing mean that the pack is able to move closely with the body, offering extra flexibility and comfort. With an integrated kickstand, the pack stays upright by itself, so you don't have to prop the pack up when accessing your gear or reaching for your phone. This innovation also prevents the pack from tilting over and damaging your gear. The LidLock™ bike helmet attachment means you can store your helmet on the outside of the pack. The padded laptop and tablet sleeve keep your tech safe and the built in high visibility raincover can be deployed when conditions take a turn for the worse.

Michael
Excellent bag for serious commuting
I have been using the Radial 26 for over two months for daily commuting to work. Because of the distance (24km each way,) I need to take extra clothes, toiletries, and towels in addition to a notebook computer, a couple of books, smartphone, keys, wallet, a rain jacket, sunglasses, and other things for the office. All of this adds up to quite a load, nearly 6 kg net. All of it is carried comfortably in the Radial, and it is well organized, too. The computer section at the rear, next to the back, comfortably takes my Surface Book (irregular shape and heavy!) and a couple of books. The main compartment easily accommodates a packing cube and toiletries bag with room to spare, while the front compartment takes all the kinds of small items and includes a plastic key carabiner. The pockets keep things where I need them. The additional top pocket for glasses side zip pocket, and the front mesh pocket keep a few key items at hand without having to dig in one of the large compartments. The keyring in the side pocket is a little gimmicky, but it works, and I actually do use it. It has let me organize a perfect routine. The included rain cover, concealed at the bottom of the pack, is a welcome and comforting addition. The good organization means that I can tell instantly if I have everything I need and can then just pick up the bag and go.

Even with the considerable weight, the pack sits comfortably. The straps are attached to elastic draws, which gives the whole mass a slightly “springy” feeling that is unusual at first and required some fine tuning for me to get the right fit. Having found a good position, I find it sits just right with no back fatigue for the one-hour ride. The Airspeed suspension helps some in hot weather, but it does not perform miracles; the shoulder straps are well ventilated. The waist strap is quite narrow, but then again a bulkier trekking-style strap would be in the way. The Kickstand and LidLock features do just what they are supposed to, and they make the transition from ride to office (unpacking, storage) a breeze.

A lot of people I know use a rack-mounted bag of a prominent German manufacturer. I tried this after several people encouraged me, but the size and weight of the things I need to carry made it hard to pack and find things, and the balance of the bicycle was totally off. The Radial is a much better choice for me, even in hot weather.

This is my fifth Osprey pack, and it is a winner. I recommend it to anyone who has to do serious carrying over a long-distance commute.
