The packpack I was waiting for !
I am pilgrim since ten years and walked with it last autumn from Paris to Santiago de Compostela and this spring from Sevilla to Rocamadour. More or less 4500 kilometers. It's exactly the backpack for ultralight walkers (me: 4,5 kilos including the Hikelite, without water). After these two walks it's almost like new: It just needs to be washed ! I already tried before others Osprey: Exos 45, Talon 33, Manta 28. All with perfect quality but the Hikelite is perfect for ultralight long treks. Which means you can use it eyes shut for a day trip ! I insert a 2 liters water bag in the pocket inside, not bottle in the strech side pockets, without any problem. 6 stars !

hikeilte 26 - my favorite back pack
great back pack for so many opportunities. Whether on journey, short trips by food or with my bike or e-scooter. Every day I have it with me. Not only a very nice design. Additionally a well-thought product, when I compare it with others. Great and quick customer service. Thank you much, dear Osprey-Team.

Almost perfect
I think this is an extremely good day bag, and is very light and comfortable to use. I'd have to agree with the side pocket assertion, but went with the water reservoir as a result and have had no issues as a result.

Love it but bottle pockets are useless
I really love my Hikelite, use it every day when I cycle to work. However, like others have said here, the bottle pockets simply suck. They are completely useless, bottles of 0.5 liters or also 1.0 liters ALWAYS fall out. I have not had this experience with other Osprey bags (I had a Sirius, which had much tighter bottle pockets). Real disappointment. I know that a bottle would maybe stay in the pocket if the daypack is packed really full, but probably many people (like me) often don't pack it to the max.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Jolien,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for the Hikelite 26.

It's great to hear that overall, you are happy with your Hikelite 26 and enjoy using it for your everyday commute. However, we are sorry to hear that you are not fully satisfied with the stretch side pockets. The Hikelite 26 has been tested with a standard 1L wide mouth water bottle. Our findings have confirmed that a standard 1L water bottle should fit comfortably in both side pockets and remain sturdy in them.

As you mentioned in your review, the pockets will work most effectively when the pack is sufficiently filled and also when the compression straps are fully utilised. However, I will pass your feedback onto our design team for their consideration.

This is probably the best bag I've ever used. It's super comfy, on the back and the straps as well. It holds comfortably a lot of weight and it's nice not only for hikes but also for university/work. The color is also amazing, I got the green one. It's nicely waterproof and fits a lot of stuff, but it's also very light. I have to agree that the water bottle pockets are a bit strange, and my water bottles have slipped many times already. But then again, they're nice pockets for other stuff as well, like for example, when it's not raining, I've used one of them to put my laptop charger inside, and the other to put fruits and snacks, and I placed my water bottle inside the bag instead. So I'm not too disappointed with them, I just expected a bit more, especially considering the quality that Osprey is renowned for. But then again, the quality is indeed top.
If I were to give suggestions for improvement, I would indeed fix the water bottle pockets, and perhaps also add more pockets on the inside. But this is still probably the best bag I've ever used, worth every cent spent.

Osprey backpack
Found this extremely good size for hiking, took all I needed. Mesh pockets were fine, and you can pull the belt over a water bottle to hold securely. It held my 2 litre water bag in the back. Only reason doesn't get 5 stars is that I need pockets inside , especially when using to get through airports etc. Maybe its a woman thing but why no pockets except one not very big or secure one on outside plus sweatshirt type pull through? Straps very comfortable.

Hi,

It is great to hear you have been pleased with your pack for hiking, however, we will ensure your feedback on additional internal pockets is passed to our Design Team for reflection.

light, reliable, very comfortable and easy to wash
I took the HikeLight 26 for a 320 km/10 day hike in the Alps and northern Italy this summer. Depending on weather conditions and food/water planning I carried from 2.5 kg (base weight) up to 8.5 kg. It turned out to be reliable under each and every condition. The comfort of the shoulder straps is outstanding with any load. After a couple of days in extreme heat you want to wash straps and back mash. I was surprised how easy and effective the material can be washed and how fast it dryes. Due to high comfort of shoulder straps I use 3 different light Osprey backpacks in different sizes depending on the needs of my project. The HL 26 is ideal for long distance ultralight hiking without overnight gear.

What is wrong with the mesh side pockets ???
I love this pack and I use it everyday but there is a huge issue. The mesh side pockets.... The Osprey Customer Service wrote below that " The mesh pockets have been designed to hold a standard wide mouth water bottle up to 1 L ". The problem is that I use wide mouth 1L Nalgene bottle and it slips out from the mesh pockets too !!!! It slips out when I bend over a bit to take something from the trunk of my car or just to correct my shoe. When I walk I`m very scared that I will loose my water bottle. It looks like the side straps are too low. I don`t understand what was on the Osprey`s designers minds that it is fixed or maybe it is fixed but I do something wrong with it ?
I`m giving 5 stars because I love this pack and I hope that I do something wrong with it but I still didn`t find a solution for this :(

Excellent pack
I got this pack mostly for short day hike and I found it very comfortable and convenient. Lot of pockets to carry everything I need and I feel it good on my back and shoulders. I like the rain cover (it's one of the features I was looking for), very useful and smart.
The only little negative I found is that it's difficult to make it stay straight when on ground, but other than that it is a great backpack.
Debbie
Really, REALLY good !
I bought the Hikelite 26 to do a hill walk (Hart Fell near Moffat in Scotland) that I’ve wanted to do for years. My old ruck sack is heavy and always felt bulky. So, I wanted to be able to carry what I needed easily (I’m 61 and not a regular hill walker). 29.06.18 was hot (Met Office says 25.8 by 15.00) but the mesh back worked fantastically well. My back stayed cool and dry all day (I was out for over 13 hours). I carried 6L of fluids without finding it uncomfortable. Nothing about the Hikelite 26 was uncomfortable. My walking poles stayed in place. Plus ... I love the colour (I bought the green). Really good. Well worth the money. A pleasure.
Bruce
Light but not perfect
Nice lightweight bag. Could have done with another pocket to stash food/items and not have to rummage in main compartment.
Side mesh pockets are terrible. My 800ml brand new bottle fell out twice on the first outing. I had just started a 15 mile fast hike and was running a flat section of road and water bottle fell out. I was lucky it hit my leg and I realised, else I would have lost all my water near the start! It happened again later. Not happy at all, new bottle is completely scratched up. Very poor design, surprised it was picked up in resting.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for taking the time to write a review for the Hikelite 26.

We're sorry to hear that your water bottle did not stay inside the side pocket of your pack. To ensure that it does stay in place, we recommend using the compression straps and adjusting these around the bottle when it's in the pocket. We also recommend that the pack isn't overfilled and that there is nothing hard pushing against the outside of the pack near these pockets. This as well can potentially push the bottle out of the pocket when you're moving around rigorously.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch here.

Amazing pack
Not only was it delivered within a day, it is a really great pack. Extremely lightweight. It's very adjustable so that the content is always secure. The mesh back panel is perfect for warm weather. I had no issue securing 0.5L bottles in the side pockets using the straps. I will be using this pack a lot.

Great pack BUT.....
Great pack. Super comfortable and exactly what you need for one day hike or urban commuting but... Dear Osprey.... I am a big fan of your products and I consider you one of the best pack producers in the world. This is why I am so dissapointed with the side bottle pockets!!! Shame on you. You can use them for everything but carrying a bottle. They are too big and bottle just slips out. The only way it works is if the pack is fully loaded and you tighten the compression straps really well. In case when the pack is half full, forget you’ll safely carry your bottle in it. This is a basic function and I do not see why Osprey would fail doing it right. 10$ packs from the supermaket have these pockets done better. The only logical reason in my opinion is to force your customers to buy and use your camel back water carriers. Well... I don’t like them so with this pack I need to carry my bottle in the main compartment which is very inconvinient.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Adam,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Hikelite 26.

It is great to hear that you have enjoyed using this pack for day hikes and commuting. However, we are sorry to learn that you have had issues placing your water bottle in the side pockets of this pack. The mesh pockets have been designed to hold a standard wide mouth water bottle up to 1L, as you mentioned, for customers wishing to carry a larger volume of water, the Hikelite 26 comes with a dedicated reservoir sleeve. We will ensure your feedback on these pockets is passed to our Design Team for reflection on future models of this pack.
