Perfect travel companion
I’m amazed how much I can get in this bag. Comfortable to wear and the perfect size to take on and off a train or plane. All the different sections are well thought out and easy to access. Definitely makes you think about what you really need to pack as perfect for keeping the weight down.

Hip belt too short
Lovely backpack, but as a woman, I can't use the women's version as the hip belt is too tight; it will only JUST fasten on me. I'm not overly large, and have never had this problem with a backpack before. I will have to buy the Far Point 40 just so that it fits.

Please Osprey, realise that not all women who want to travel are really slim! A bit of extra webbing would be no problem for slimmer ladies, but the webbing being too short means that this product has to be completely discounted by average / larger ladies.

Great for traveling light
I bought this pack specifically for my trip to Vietnam and it was perfect for 15 days spent in 5 locations. I went through Europe with my 70L camping pack and quickly realized the shortcomings. The Fairview solves this be being extremely versatile and yet sturdy and ergonomic. I am 5'2 with a short torso and the backpack was comfortable for moving between hotels, boats, trains, and airports. I also liked having the side strap for short distances. The best feature is the arrangement with the main compartment able to unzip on three sides so you have the convenience of packing like a suitcase. After having to pull out my clothing, maps, electronics, and toiletries from the top of my camping backpack and then repack everything each time, I was delighted with how I could unzip the Fairview and grab what I needed quickly and conveniently. The front compartment is roomy enough to store all of my documents and electronics. I also enjoyed the pockets where I could stow my flip flops. If you are looking for something more accessible than a camping pack but don't want to drag around a suitcase, this is it. 40L fits into most airline carry on limits and can comfortably hold what you would need for a short holiday.

THE NEW OSPREY FAIRVIEW CARRY-ON BAG
Meet the adventurous traveller’s new best mate. The perfectly sized new Osprey Fairview 40 litre rucksack, £100, is roomy enough for all your kit but still small enough to sail through airport security and to work as an excellent hiking backpack.

Where’s your next far-flung adventure? Whether you’re road-tripping through Iceland or hiking in South America, a sturdy, roomy rucksack is a must. Osprey’s new female-specific Fairview joins their ever-popular male Farpoint in their travel series. This Goldilocks-like backpack is just right for weekend adventures, multi-day hikes and adventure travel, as it holds tons of kit and clothing but is also small enough to meet cabin bag restrictions.

THE TRAVEL-FRIENDLY OSPREY FAIRVIEW

My Fairview‘s all packed for my surf trip to Sri Lanka next week but in the meantime I’ve been testing it out on hikes and camping trips. I love the roomy compartments, padded laptop sleeve and padlock-compatible zipped pockets – having a place to safely store everything is a big help on the road. As a hiking rucksac, the Fairview ticks all my boxes – the shoulder straps are well-padded and you can tell the lumbar support has been designed with women’s bodies in mind. Want to convert to a shoulder bag? All the straps zip neatly away and there’s a carry strap – great for busy airports – as well as a top and a side handle. The bag feels light and comfortable when trekking, too – it weighs in at 1.44kg and even stuffed with gear, the well-designed straps spread the load on your back and are easy to adjust to your body. I’ve taken a one-man tent, a small sleeping bag and change of clothes on a wild camping trip in mine with no problem.

I also love the sea-green colour of the Fairview. Osprey buck the trend of choosing girly, saccharine colours for their female range, and the Fairview also comes in a smart grey. If you’re after a bigger pack 55 litre (£130) and 70 litre (£140) versions are available too. Like all the Osprey packs I’ve tested, the quality you get for the price is fantastic – absolutely worth the investment if you want just one bag for all your upcoming adventures.

Never agian
I ordered this Backpack from the German Osprey Website. I'm a petite person however the straps were very uncomfortable for me and hurting me neck.
I had to send the Fairview 40 back and that's when the real trouble started. Even though I checked the Return Conditions on the German Site there was nothing mentioned about having to pay the Return costs. Only now, I found that in the FAQ it says that Osprey is not paying in case of a return. This might not be uncommon however I think a company that sells Backpacks that have to be fitted it clearly shows that this company doesn't care about their customers. Furthermore Osprey is only situated in the Netherlands even though they have other websites they only deliver from the Netherlands. In my case I have to pay more then 15,00€ to return a Backpack that didn't fit. Other companies offer their customers to return an item to one of their resellers however Osprey refuses to accept this.
My anger is big, such a big company should be able to state their Return conditions clearly.
I will never order again from this website!
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Klara,

We are sorry to hear that your pack did not fit suitably and caused you discomfort. The Fairview 40 is sold in a size WS/WM, this is suitable for a torso length between 38-53cm, we always recommend that customers use our PackSizer App to size themselves prior to purchase. We also have Pack Fitting Instructions to ensure that the pack is fitted properly to you, as this can effect the comfort of the straps. To hear that you found the straps uncomfortable would suggest that the pack needs adjusting as the load should be through your hips and you should feel very little on your shoulders.

While we appreciate that there is a returns cost involved, customers have to agree to our Terms & Conditions at the point of purchase, which explain that the cost to return any purchase made from the website is the responsibility of the customer.

Great bag, let down by a few things
Overall this is a great bag, well built but a large interior pocket . My only issue at the elasticated pocket at the front are a little ridged making it difficult to hold a bottle, should be a little more elastic. Another issue is the placement of the laptop sleeve, your laptop is generally the single heaviest item in your bag. From a mechanics perspective it make more sense to have this closest to the body, shifting the overall centre of gravity; carrying a normal laptop in this bag can be a little uncomfortable.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi tPB,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for the Fairview 40.

Usually, it would be more comfortable to have the laptop sleeve situated at the back of the pack and closest to the body and in most of our other packs, this is the case. However, with the Fairview 40, as a result of the suitcase style opening, the majority of people would lie it flat. As a consequence of this, this would mean you are packing all other belongings on top of the laptop. Not only does that mean your electrical items could be damaged by shoes and heavier items, it can be very difficult to easily access again.

In response to your comments about the front elasticated pockets, these are designed to be tight and to hold items in the pockets securely. However, we understand that using them with certain style water bottles could be tricky. I recommend loosening the compression straps at the bottom that may be restricting access. While the Fairview 40 is our best-selling Women's Fit Travel Pack, your feedback will be passed to our Design Team for future consideration.

LOVE the backpack, HATE the color!
I absolutely love this backpack! It's extremely practical and doesn't hurt your back. Just be aware that the color (Misty Grey) is VERY misleading. I've looked at this website from my MacBook, my work PC and my iPhone - and it looks gray on all those devices. However, in real life the backpack is actually GREEN!

Osprey: I beg you to change the color on this backpack! I have absolutely no idea why a design team would match such a terrible green-ish color with turquoise. So please do yourselves a favor and change the color to actual gray..!
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Celine,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Fairview 40.

It is great to hear that you are happy with the features and comfort of your pack, however, we are sorry that you have been disappointed by the colour.

When viewing a product online, the device used and the calibration setting of each individual screen can be perceived differently. However, we will ensure your feedback is passed to our Digital Team who will be looking to review the shades of the current images. If changes are made we hope that this will help customers make a more accurate decision when selecting the colour of their pack.
