    The best Backpack for bivving..........possibly.
The Kestrel 38 is probably the best backpack for bivving. The main reason for this is the packs accessibility. The separate lower compartment, which is unusual on a pack this size, means your sleep and shelter system is accessible without having to unpack the sack, ideal when setting up a shelter in less than ideal conditions. Side access also allows quite access to the likes of your stove and kettle for a quick brew up without having to rummage through the whole pack, again great when brewing up in the sort of conditions often encountered here in the North West Highlands! Quick access to my tarp from the bottom of the sack, stove out the side, a quick sheltered brew without having to unpack the whole pack. Also good to see the return of sleeping map loops and lash points on top of the sack. You don't have to use them, but very usual if you do. Negatives? Rain cover is very basic and a garishly green colour. Why include such a colour with a dark green rucksack? The lack of "holes" through which to thread the hip belt also inhibits a proper fit for the cover. (standard practice on all my Lowepro AW camera cases/packs). Pack would be improved through the inclusion of proper side pockets rather than current fashionable mesh pockets. Backpacking sacks need side pockets, climbing sacks don't (all about balance, arm movement, etc. Trust me, I've been climbing since the 70's & have seen how years of tried and tested backpack styles and designs have given way to fashion all in the name of so called progress. ) Overall, another excellent backpack from Osprey.

Kupiłem go na krótkie zimowe wypady oraz letnie kilkudniowe trekingi. Dla żony kupiłem poprzedni model. Mam mieszane uczucia czy nie lepszy. U mnie także decydował kolor No i te większe kieszonki na pasie. Polecam!

    Kestrel 38 Backpack (large)
I bought this backpack without trying it on in the shop, although I had done a lot of research on Osprey before I purchased. I am an experience backpacker therefore I knew exactly what I wanted in a backpack of this size.
Firstly I have just returned from a two week backpacking trip where I carried all I needed, I must emphasis that I wasn't camping therefore no tent etc was included in the pack. The 38 litres was ample storage for all my gear and I only filled it to about ¾ full.
One of the major advantages of the Kestrel is the ability to access the inside from three locations, the top, side and bottom, and this was found very useful.
The back adjustment is very easy to use for your own comfort, you have to take it off to make the adjustments for back length but once set it will stay fixed forever.
One of the really good features of the backpack is the "stow and go" for the trekking poles, this feature I found invaluable, such a simple system.
The back frame was very comfortable and air circulation really good, I was walking in temperatures of 20c and never had a wet back.
Another feature I found very good was the reservoir pocket, This was the first time I've used a reservoir and I have to say it was easier than I though.
Overall this is the best backpack I've ever used, it just felt part of me when walking.

I would like to point out that I have no affiliation with Osprey

    Quality backpack
I'm not a hiker, but use my backpacks for all sorts of activities. From family day-outs to commuting by bike to work. You can attached whatever wherever to this bag. Already had a Kestrel 48 (4 years old), but found that too big for the commuting so went for the 38-version (and black colour). Perfect to me to put in a pair of shoes, the rest of the clothing, food for the day and the laptop. With its harness, feels like nothing on my back. Very happy with the purchase.

Great advice given when considering which rucksack to buy. Very pleased with the choice. Exactly right for a weeks trekking (without camping equipment etc.). Particularly like the long side zip allowing access to the main compartment without having to dig
    Great rucksack.

    Great product.
I’m not an expert.I bought this as an all rounder pack. Short trips, weekends away, hiking, camping. I had just got an atmos 65 for camping and the quality of that reassured me. This is a good pack and again the quality is obvious. I bought the grey and I think it looks great.
