Aether AG 85

The journey is your reward. Having once graced the cover of the legendary Time Magazine, Aether AG now takes a big step forward to make your journey even more rewarding.

Aether AG is designed for multi-day backpacking and carrying significant loads. The backsystem combines the comfort and ventilation of Osprey's multi-award-winning AG AntiGravity™ backsystem with the custom-mouldable fit of Osprey's next generation IsoForm™ hipbelt. A sprung mesh lumbar area, combined with stiff load bars integrated into the harness allows for impressive load transfer through the large muscle groups in the legs, enabling an even and comfortable backpacking experience.

Organisation and accessibility are key during long adventures. These packs stand out with multiple access points including the J-Zip front panel access into the body of the pack, as well as sleeping back compartment with wide zip entry an internal divider. The lid not only has multiple pockets but is also removable, offering great versatility. The top of the pack remains protected without the lid thanks to the deployable FlapJacket™ top cover.

An integrated rain cover, Stow-on-the-Go™ trekking pole attachment, InsideOut™ compression straps and multiple attachment points allow you to carry your gear any way you like. Aether AG 85's high capacity allows for extra gear to be carried with ease on long or cold backpacking adventures.

Aether AG provides uncompromising comfort, ventilation and stability for your multi-day adventures.

As an essential feature for Europe, this pack is supplied with a raincover instead of the DayLid.

misleading information for the european market
I would like to express my dismay ,wish I had read Alex's review before purchasing this backpack, it is extremely comfortable , but like Alex find my self with a useless top bag which doesn't change into a day pack. I have done an awful lot of research before purchasing this item and on all the different sites whether being You tube or other it clearly demonstrate the advantage of the detachable day pack. A feature i was particularly looking forward to on my 4 months trek.
Could you please let me know the terminology of the top detachable day pack for an aether 85 so that I can order one before my departure in 30 days.
This is very misleading indeed and not helpful at all to show one thing and sell another for a different country. Whether it rains more in Europe than some part of the states, it doesn't make any difference at to regard the usage of the day pack.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Jean-Luc,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Aether AG 85.

We are sorry to hear you have been disappointed by Osprey Europe's decision to not include the DayLid feature on the Aether AG Series. This decision was made following considerable research with our athletes, partners, consumers and Osprey retailers. In Europe, it was felt featuring an integrated raincover is more important than featuring a detachable daypack. Though we appreciate that the lack of a Daylid may seem a shame for some users, we feel that it is of greater benefit to be able to offer a raincover and more affordable SRP for the many backpackers who will not use the DayLid feature.

As discussed earlier, we are pleased we have found a solution to your need for a daypack that is compatiable with your Aether AG 85, and that you have now purchased the Daylite, which will attach to the front your pack.

Regards,

Osprey Customer Service

Disapointed and mislead.
After hearing nothing but good things about Osprey packs i decided to bite the bullet and invest in the Aether 85 to meet my needs of hiking climbing and caving, i always look at reviews and videos before purchasing and all the reviews indicated this pack was super versatile and met the needs i would be using it for. However ,unfortunetly the reviews that came up were the non European version of the rucksack indicating a consistent 4-5 stars due to the versatility and especially the detachable top lid that turns into a day pack . That was the reason i bought the Aether AG 85 in the end compared to other Rucksacks. On arrival i disappointingly realised that the top lid/ day pack has been changed to a .. raincover.. for European models. I thought this was a manufacturer fault at first, as my thoughts were why would they regress and remove the top lid/ day pack when it was one of the biggest selling points of the product! I spent an hour looking for an explanation and it was only after reading other unhappy European customer reviews that i realised the useful top lid/ day pack was in fact replaced with a rain cover. I don't have the time to send this product back now and replace with a new bag due to having to go away on expedition, so my hand has been forced to keep this rucksack and insultingly purchase the £40 "DAYLITE" rucksack that essentially turns the European model into the version of the rucksack it should be. As a first time Osprey buying i am disappointed and insulted that this has happened and i can't fathom the logic and evidence of your market research for this, rain covers are readily available; Osprey branded or not but a top lid/ day sack is not and it appears European customers including myself are forced to buy the £40 Osprey DAYLITE and have a useless top lid that came with the European Aether AG. Adding a constructive comment to this, i would suggest it is made absolutely clear that the raincover is INSTEAD of the Top lid/day sack, because this has absolutely mislead me into purchasing this product, one could think the raincover is an addition to the top lid/ daysack as the logic for removing it is questionable and i would be interested to see your market research around this when i'm sure there has been ALOT of people like myself mislead by your marketing.
On an end note the actual bag appears to be well made and meet my needs it's just the toplid/ day sack i'm upset about.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Alex,

We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with Osprey Europe's decision to feature a Raincover instead of the Daylid on our Aether AG and Ariel AG range. This decision was made after conducting extensive research with our athletes, partners, consumers and Osprey retailers.

This research highlighted, that in Europe, featuring an integrated raincover is more important than including a Daylid. Though we appreciate that the lack of a Daylid may seem a shame for some users, we feel that it is of greater benefit to be able to offer a raincover and more affordable SRP for the many customers who will not use the DayLid feature.

If you would like the option of having a Daypack for Carry-On or travelling around on day trips, both the Aether AG and Ariel AG are compatible with our Daylite series, allowing you to easily attach these packs onto the front of the backpacks. As an alternative, we also have our Stuff Pack series which can be compressed to the size of an apple and is a maximum weight of 180g.
