Brilliant commuting backpack
After years of using a Deuter AC lite 18 for commuting 30km+ single trip to work on my race bike, I recently had a crash and I was worried about my laptop... which survived luckily. Nevertheless, I started looking for an upgrade: 1) mesh back, 2) laptop sleeve and 3) high quality material. Turned out the Radial 26 was the only, but expensive, option... In the end, my experience with another Osprey bag (Flap Jack messenger) which turned out to be the best bag I ever had, made me to bite the bullet (price) and go for the Radial 26. Ever since I started using it, I am amazed by the functionality of the bag. It continues to surprise me with clever features, like the very clever key storage, so many storage options, just brilliant. It has lots and lots of space and is very comfortable on the back. It would get 5 stars if the price was a bit lower and for me, the bag could be 3-4 liters smaller. But, all in all, it was definitely worth the upgrade. You can feel this bag is made by cycling enthusiasts. Well done.

Excellent bag for serious commuting
I have been using the Radial 26 for over two months for daily commuting to work. Because of the distance (24km each way,) I need to take extra clothes, toiletries, and towels in addition to a notebook computer, a couple of books, smartphone, keys, wallet, a rain jacket, sunglasses, and other things for the office. All of this adds up to quite a load, nearly 6 kg net. All of it is carried comfortably in the Radial, and it is well organized, too. The computer section at the rear, next to the back, comfortably takes my Surface Book (irregular shape and heavy!) and a couple of books. The main compartment easily accommodates a packing cube and toiletries bag with room to spare, while the front compartment takes all the kinds of small items and includes a plastic key carabiner. The pockets keep things where I need them. The additional top pocket for glasses side zip pocket, and the front mesh pocket keep a few key items at hand without having to dig in one of the large compartments. The keyring in the side pocket is a little gimmicky, but it works, and I actually do use it. It has let me organize a perfect routine. The included rain cover, concealed at the bottom of the pack, is a welcome and comforting addition. The good organization means that I can tell instantly if I have everything I need and can then just pick up the bag and go.

Even with the considerable weight, the pack sits comfortably. The straps are attached to elastic draws, which gives the whole mass a slightly “springy” feeling that is unusual at first and required some fine tuning for me to get the right fit. Having found a good position, I find it sits just right with no back fatigue for the one-hour ride. The Airspeed suspension helps some in hot weather, but it does not perform miracles; the shoulder straps are well ventilated. The waist strap is quite narrow, but then again a bulkier trekking-style strap would be in the way. The Kickstand and LidLock features do just what they are supposed to, and they make the transition from ride to office (unpacking, storage) a breeze.

A lot of people I know use a rack-mounted bag of a prominent German manufacturer. I tried this after several people encouraged me, but the size and weight of the things I need to carry made it hard to pack and find things, and the balance of the bicycle was totally off. The Radial is a much better choice for me, even in hot weather.

This is my fifth Osprey pack, and it is a winner. I recommend it to anyone who has to do serious carrying over a long-distance commute.

Ultimate bike pack
Hallo, I'm from Denmark I ride my bike every day all year, rain or snow. My problem was I have tried many, no really a'lot of daypack's from 24L - 35L never finding the right one, until Radial 26 this is my ultimate choice when riding my bike every day. I spent a little time adjusting it to fit my back and riding style (really nice btw) and now I don't feel it on my back it just there.

I really like all the rooms, it can stand up, side room for water bottle and the side pocket with the elastic for the key (I think) Thank you for making the ultimate bike pack.

The best pack for bike commuting
First of all: Please excuse my English, I am German :-)

I'm 32 and in the warmer time (from roughly April to around October) I ride my road bike everyday to and from work - total 40 kms.
As I am some sort of a "digital nomad" I carry around all my tech gear - laptop, tablet, smartphone, powerbank, a plethora of cables, headphones, external hard drive and so on.
Also I carry a spare tube, bike tools and a lock.
In addition I have to carry my normal clothes for the office (thankfully no suit). Something to eat and drink is also in the pack.
You see: A lot to carry.

Before I switched to the Radial 26 I used a Chrome bag. Stylish, yes - but uncomfortable when you ride with it fully packed.
Something odd presses against your back, there is no padding whatsoever... It's just not comfortable. In addition it's just one giant "room" with a tiny zip-pocket on the front. No organisation possible.
I searched long and hard for a backpack which fits my needs. Which is: A lot of space, internal organisation (!), durability.
Enter the Radial 26.

I have this backpack now for approximately 3 months and I am more than happy with it.
The internal organisation is awesome - so many pockets to put stuff in. Everything has its place and I don't have to search for my gear.
The laptop compartment is really nice. Sometimes I forget that I have a laptop in my pack and I place the pack pretty rude on the floor. The laptop is safe inside the Radial and doesn't take damage.
What I really like: The kickstand. I remember when I was young I hated it that the backpacks fell over. Or you had to lean it against a wall/chair/table.
Take off the Radial, place it on the ground and presto - it stands. Really nice feature.
The raincover is also great. It's a matter of seconds to put it over the pack. Like... 10 seconds at the most.

There is one thing I do not like: The position adjustment straps. The are made of elastic material and... I don't know. It gives the pack a little a wobbly feeling.

Overall this is a fantastic pack and worth the money. Highly recommended!

Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Chris,

Thanks very much for your review, we're happy to hear that you're enjoying your new Radial 26!

The stretch yoke and load-lifters on the top of the harness (along with the elasticated section of the hipbelt) are designed to allow the pack to move along with the motion of the body, especially when cycling or moving fast. It also allows the harness and hipbelt to extend and contract along with your breathing, allowing the pack to remain stable and close to the body. If the pack's feeling a little wobbly, it's possible to tighten the yoke which will likely help with the pack's stability.
