    Simply the best
I was looking for a backpack that had sufficient volume and that wouldn’t have the sweat running down my back - and the EXOS 58 is just the one!
Here I have comfort, plenty of volume and all the features I could wish for - all at a light weight that keep me running for hours and hours hiking wherever I want to go.
    This has my top marks...

    Loved it on the PCT
I've had this backpack for 6 months now. We hiked 2650 miles together from Mexico to Canada. And I loved every single step with this amazing backpack. Everything fit inside, it's super light and comfortable. I just a garbage bag inside to put my sleeping bag etc in there instead of a raincover and I loved it! My favourite part about the pack is the part where your back touches (but doesn't touch) the pack. The space in between is so comfortable and I was probably the only hiker that didn't sweat through their pack. :)
If I'll go back to doing a thruhike again, not without this pack. Carry that extra weight, it''s worth it!

Excellent pack once you get used to it's quirks
tl;dr - Less padding on the straps but you'll get used to it, Don't worry about the lack of hip belt pockets, you can access the side pockets through an extra access point.

I used this for a 3 day hike/camp in Yorkshire carrying all food and gear.

The pack takes a bit of getting used to, the back suspension system initially felt like the pack was loaded badly and sitting too far back. It wasn't, the load was cinched down nicely, and it was very stable. Also found that it took a while for my collarbone to adjust to the less padded strap, I ended the first day feeling a little bruised but that got better on subsequent days.

I was a little worried about the lack of hip belt pockets but that didn't turn out to be a problem. The side pockets have two access points, top and rear, both are large enough to take a water bottle but crucially you can reach the rear access point while wearing the pack. I had a water bottle in one and trail snacks in the other, both perfectly accessible while hiking without removing the pack or even breaking stride.

The back suspension system turned out to be great, it was comfortable through the day and meant I didn't sweat through any parts of my clothing despite the baking weather.

    Osprey Exos 58 backpack
I purchased this for a 4 day camping hike in the Grand Canyon, I have just used it on a 10 mile hike and have to say I found it quite confortable. There are a couple of things that could help: 1) Some enclosed instructions on having to adjust the backpack to sit comfortably without having to search the internet. 2) Some enclosed instructions on what to use the various straps and other cords for; this can be worked out eventually but some simple advice enclosed with the backpack would help. 3) Some small areas, bags, pockets to store things that are easily accessible when the pack in being worn such as somewhere that keys or a wallet could be put without having to take the backpack off!
I had an issue with my Osprey account for purchasing the backpack online, I wanted to pay with a CC from one country and ship to another but the address section would not permit me to do that, I just cannot believe how unintuitive and lacking in simple common sense large company web sites can be at times but I contacted Osprey and they came back very quickly with a solution.

Good at it what it's supposed to to.
As a bag that's optimisied to be light it excels. It's comfortable for medium loads and the stretchy front and water bottle pockets are enormous. But the reduced weight means it lacks everything that's not essential, like a zipper to access stuff lowed down, any organisation pockets, hip pockets, or any rigidity to speak of outside the aluminum frame. I also found my arms sometimes scraping off the nylon of the shoulder straps as I walked and if not packed carefully it would sway as I walked quite a bit.

  7. Perfect for thru hike
I got this pack for the PCT this year, I'm currently half way and loving the pack. It's light and very durable. With the 58L there is no issue with fitting a bear canister in for the Sierras section too. Would happily recommend this pack to anyone doing similar trips.

Excellent bag, but not suitable for checked in luggage
I used this backpack on a 6month trip around South America and it was excellent light weight and has super cool features. Starting with the little loops on the zipper to all the small pocket. So for hiking purposes I'd totally recommend it. Unfortunately the aluminium frame is not made for being handled by luggage handlers, so make sure you'll just use it as carry on. First my frame bent and then eventually broke and that is quite devastating after spending all that money. It's basically useless one the frame is broken and Osprey doesn't repair broken frames. So be aware of that.

    Worth every Penny
I actually purchased this at last minute on the day of our planned trek to Knoydart, a walk from Glenfinnan to Inverie, Scotland. The reason why I applaud this bag is not for its light weight and clever design, but how good it is on your back on long trip. I have a condition called Multiple Degenerative Disc Disease ( yes this condition exists, take it from me, am a medical professional) and need to look after my back carefully. So when my friends suggested the Trek over two nights and three days, I was panicking how my back would cope. I started looking online and tried various bags from different manufacturers and after getting fed up (understanding my back issues), the sales rep from Cotswold, recommended this and unfortunately they did not have in stock. So ended up in Ellis Brigham Braehead, where an another sales rep helped me out and 'sold' it to me. The bag never gave any trouble on the variable terrain and had no problems with my back even after. My friend who accompanied me on my bag hunt, ended up buying a Kestrel ( which was in his price bracket), but when he tried Exos on the trek, he was all praise for the bag. Yes it is not the most practical bag, but trust me it is the most comfortable bag you can take on long treks. I used LoweAlpine crag attack in past on day treks on scottish munros but always had a niggle in my back after the treks (not because of the bag, but my back). But carrying more weights and 3 day trek, i couldn't have asked for a better gear. Money well spent for me.

I am not sure about how long the material lasts, but even after rough use during the trek, no cuts or rips to the bag. I compensated not having a rain cover with a Poncho, which also served me as a sitting mat during breaks and as ground sheet in the porch of my tent.

Try the bag with weights before you buy and get the correct size.
