The 55l is the most versatile bag I have ever had
I bought the Ariel backpack mainly because of 1 feature: 55l is a great size to do long backpacking trips without being overwhelmed by the size. At the same time, you can take off the top part of the backpack and change it to 46l, which is not only airplane cabin size, but also a fantastic day pack. In combination with the colour, the great fit (I tried Alpine Low, Deuter and none of them fit my back), and the rain cover, I couldn't be happier about my backpack! Customer service at Osprey is also helpful and quick, so overall extremely satisfied.

I love Osprey Ariel AG 55
This is the first time that I have Backpack from Osprey. Actually I was wrong buying, because Ariel is for Female but still comfortable for Asian people like me.
That bag very nice when you carrying many stuffs, and again comfortable for Tropical Mountains

Nice bag
Osprey backpaxks are the only ones that fit me, since im quite short. I wanted a bag that is not too big so i got the ariel 55. For future iterations, i would love to see the j-shaped zipper again! This model of the ariel series does not have one, only a zipper at the side. Further ore, for me it is not clear why you would remove the lid that is not convertible into a bag? (I saw a video of a osprey ariel bag of which the top lid was convertible into a daypack!!). Besides this, the packback seems really nice (have not used it yet) and i really love how well it fits!
Osprey Customer Service,

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on the Ariel AG 55.

It is great to hear that you are happy with the fit of our packs.

The Ariel AG 55 does not have a J Zip as through our research we have found this to be unnecessary on packs of this size, due to it's smaller capacity not needing such a large access point. The J Zip also contributes to an increased weight of the overall pack, and we felt that it was important to keep the weight light. For this reason we have the side zip, which still provides access to the pack without having to go through the lid, but is a lighter option. You will find our larger version of this pack, the Ariel AG 65, has the J Zip, to ensure that the larger capacity of the main compartment can be fully reached.

Both the Aether AG and Ariel AG are sold in Europe with a raincover, rather than the Daylid feature offered in the USA. This decision was made following considerable research with our athletes, partners, consumers and Osprey retailers.

In Europe, featuring an integrated raincover is more important than featuring a detachable daypack. Though we appreciate that the lack of a Daylid may seem a shame for some users, we feel that it is of greater benefit to be able to offer a raincover and more affordable SRP for the many backpackers who will not use the DayLid feature.

Aether AG and Ariel AG are compatible with our Daylite series, allowing you to easily attach these daypacks onto the front of the backpacks. We also offer an Ultralight Stuff Pack which can be compressed to the size of an apple and weighs only 90g.

Just some questions
Hej,

I just got that backpack a few days ago, but it feels very nice on the back, so far.
While trying to understand all it's functions and possibilities, I was wondering some things:

- What are those additional clips for on the side? You show in the video #2 that they are to differently place the horizontal belts, but what advantage does that have?
- Why do the side pockets have two openings? I assume it is for better accessibility while carrying the backpack, but I wouldn't get my bottles out of the lower whole and it feels like it makes it easier to loose smaller things when taking off the backpack. So I am just curious about your opinion on that one.
- My boyfriend said that for his backpack the removable "lid" bag can be used separately. Is this also possible for this product?

Thanks!
Osprey Customer Service,

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

The clips that are on the side are for the Straightjacket compression which allows you to get greater compression on the pack when it is less filled. This can also be used for storage so to compress the pack to fit in smaller places.

The second hole on the side pocket is from the InsideOut compression. This allows you to move the compression straps from the outside of the pocket to the inside so that different items can be secured in the pockets rather than the whole pocket.

On the previous version of the Aether and Ariel, the packs had a removable lid that converted into a lumbar pack. From the research that we have done, we found that this feature was not used so did not carry this across to the new iterations of these packs; the lid is still removable but does not convert into a pack.

If you have any more questions please email our Customer Care Team.

Very Good
I only have had the bag in my possession for a few weeks. I traveled with it for 5 days. I really like how much room there is in the bag.
I love the design, it really feels good on my back. I like all the features and the way you can add clothing/other items from the top as well as the front and lower front.
The lowest compartment on the front is very handy (and it's nice that you can separate it from the top compartment).
I have one question about a feature: On the left lower side there's a grey clip, but I can't find the other side of the clip or find what it is for...

(This review was left for a previous version of this product.)
Osprey Customer Service,

Hi Leen,

Thanks for your feedback, it's great to hear how much you enjoy using your Ariel 55.

That clip on the lower left-hand side is supposed to work with the compression straps, it also has a twin higher up the pack. This allows you to compress the pack far beyond what you would normally be able to do with the compression on the front (if you have a very small load in your pack). This is also useful for storage as it helps keep the pack flat.
