Sojourn 80

This was the only bag I could find that had several pockets so I could organize my luggage items. This was an important criteria for me.

I bought this bag for a holiday to Portugal. It's easy to get organised with the various interior and exterior pockets. The zips are sturdy and the reinforced sides of the bag keep your belongings protected. The compression straps are effective and useful. The bag is easy to pack because the front unzips on three sides.
The handle mechanism is smooth and the wheels roll well, making the bag a joy to pull around. The rucksack straps are easy to access and put away again and although the bag is a bit unwieldy to carry using them, they're a very useful addition for lugging the bag up and down stairs or very bumpy ground.
I strapped my Syncro 20 to the front of my Sojourn 80 using the daisy chain loops on the front of the Sojourn 80 to gain some extra capacity for my flight. It stayed securely attached and worked very well. However, the baggage handlers appear to have either chucked my luggage down the tarmac or gone 12 rounds with it in a boxing ring. My Sojourn 80 suffered gouges in the plastic at the bottom of the bag and scuffs to the fabric. It must've put up a good fight. I can still use the bag in spite of the damage. My poor Syncro 20 wasn'the so lucky and is completely trashed.
The Sojourn 80 is a quality bag. I'm happy with my purchase. A lesser bag would have been rendered useless by the treatment meted out by the baggage handlers but my Sojourn has lived to fight another day with nothing more than cosmetic damage. My husband's case (not an Osprey) suffered a collapsed wheel and was a nightmare for the entire trip. He wishes he'd bought a Sojourn 80 instead.

Was looking for a travel bag to carry over the shoulder while having a daypack on the back, to not have the 2 backpacks problem. Purpose: World trip.
Didn't find any travel bag with a shoulder stripe, but many travelers trust the Sojourn.

As i compared, the Sojourne is a rellay high quality product and will survive rough handling on airports, etc.

The wheels and the construction is solid, and compared to other solutions, especially travel bags, duffels and backpacks you can see and feel the difference in sort of material and workmanship. Also its a pretty clever solution.

Downside is price, of course, but in this case I choose quality.

I bought the Sojourn 80 over 6 months ago for my 10 weeks trip to South-East Asia. I previously used the Waypoint 85 (70L main pack + 15L daypack) which I did not like because it has no wheels. Oh the joy of rolling around with the Sojourn bag in all those airports, bus terminals etc. Sojourn has a great pulling handle, big wheels and good padded handles to move it around. I like that the main compartment opens up quite far for easy access and the bag has many pockets. Space-wise I did not need the 80L capacity for my trip, but the StraightJacket compression worked well and I feel that the extra space did not hinder my travelling the slightest bit. The plastic strap holders broke off very soon, but other that that the bag held up very well.

Un must Have

I bought the Sojourn 80 in 2010 for a long haul trip to Australia as my old Lowe Alpine Trailtrekker pack did not have wheels and as I am in my 60s I like to pull my load wherever possible, however I wanted the full harness system as I have bad memories of having to carry my pack for miles to get to Athens airport when the buses and taxis were on strike and I was glad of the full harness. The Sojourn has proved to be an excellent pack with a good carrying capacity and the protective sides have so far been very effective against several airline baggage handlers in Australia and Europe. The wheels are very smooth and the pull handle is strong and easy to pull out and retract. The harness I have yet to use but if I do need to it is an excellent system. The bag was expensive and I thought long and hard about cheaper versions but the quality of the bag won me over. The only negative I have is that the plastic strap holders (not the clips) were broken off after only 3 flights but they were not necessary anyway. If you are hesitant about purchasing due to cost I would recommend this bag any day over cheaper versions.

Purchased six months ago after using a normal rucksacks for many, many years, for modern travel this is a great product. Well thought out, excellent build quality, good compression system that keeps everything in place, does everything you need of a wheelie case then when it gets rough just put it on your back as a rucksack. Someone has really sat back and thought this product out. "Does what it says on the tin".

Went for a Sojourn 80 because I already have two Osprey rucksacks and can't fault them. The Sojourn is more expensive than much of the competition but it's one of those rare products where price is set by design and quality rather than vice versa. The first thing that strikes you is the quality of the materials used - it looks hard wearing and it's smart. All the stitching and various fittings are precise and fit for purpose. Even the carrying handles are big so humping the bag about is (relatively) easy on the hands.
Design is good - several compartments, some of which can be accessed without having to perform an unpacking job, slim when you aren't carrying a lot, massive volume when required.
I carried 3 sets of curtains plus my own stuff the first (and up to now only) time I've used mine. Bet that's something you haven't thought about Mr Osprey!
So, first impressions are that after using once I'm very happy rather than disillusioned, it's going to last a long time and that it's worth every £ (or $ or Euro)
