Incredible Pack - more than just a day pack: 450km Camino de Santiago!
I am the proud owner of the Talon 22 and Talon 33 backpacks. These are by far the best packs I have ever used, and in all of my research (religiously visiting outdoor-shops, on the road talking to other adventurers, etc.) I have yet to find a backpack as versatile, lightweight and super-comfy as the Talon series. These packs are extremely light, they really hug your body, and no matter how heavy the load - you barely notice them. The pack moves with you and just feels great. They have plenty of storage space, pockets, connection-points, whatever.

Almost every review or video you find on the web say something along the lines of "this pack is great for those day trips, blah". I don't know what everyone else is carrying, but I managed to get everything I needed packed into the Talon 33 for a 3-week 450 kilometer hike through the north of Spain on the Camino de Santiago. In total, my backpack including everything in it came in at a modest 4,5 Kilos… And this was with 3 Pairs each of Polo Shirts, Hiking Shorts, Socks & Undies, then all of my toiletries, extra pair of "relief"-shoes, slieeping bag, towel, "utensils", first-aid, flashlight, warm layer, waterproof jacket, you name it. I even had enough space left for the occasional Bocadillo, some fruits and veggies, a can of beer or bottle of wine. Many people saw my “tiny” pack and couldn’t believe I had everything I needed.

Also, I often hear people complaining that this pack has no rain-cover included. I don't see the big deal. I pack everything inside with dry bags anyhow. This works wonderfully for structuring, and it keeps your stuff safe from the elements. This pack dries so quickly that a stint through the downpour will be soon forgotten if you pack right. I also own an Osprey Dry-Bag 30l which I used as a Pack-Liner instead of a Rain-Cover on the Camino. Everything inside my pack was not only completely secure from the elements: I also hung my Backpack every evening somewhere to avoid bed-bugs and other critters. Nothing got in ;-)

All in all, highly recommendable! My only 2 small gripes:
1) The previous version of this pack could not hold its shape, and stuff just kind of sagged and bunched at the bottom - leaving the lid to sadly droop over an somewhat "empty" top-portion. I am hoping this has been improved in the latest version (which I intend to get!)
2) The hip-belt webbing was way to short, whereby the webbing for the top lid is way too long and leaves you with a lot of dangling ends

But once again: I would highly recommend this pack and will definitely get the latest version.

Buen Camino!

Perfect pack for smaller loads
Bought this to encourage me to take what I need for 3 seasons backpacking, rather than what I think I need. I can pack into this little rucksack my 2 man MSR tent (ncluding footprint AND a cut down picnic blanket for the interior (I like a carpet!), sleeping mattress, sleeping bag, pillow, cooking set, first aid kit, spare clothes, emergency rations and a number of other small items (including my luxury, a portable radio!) and still have room in the top to stuff food for my evening meal. I'm carrying 7kg or so and the rucksack fits beautifully and is a joy to carry. Thanks Osprey, I love my rucksack! Bentley, UK

Great bag
I used the bag for my three weeks trip through Norway and Sweden. With 8kg it was very good to carry and I was absolutely satisfied. It is also very good for day trips in the alps.

Waist and Sternum Strap
i bought this for a trip to Portugal and Spain to walk an average of 25 km per day over 14 consecutive days. The pack was light and a good carry. My complaints are 1) the waist strap is too short and too narrow. It cannot be fastened closed when wearing a wicking layer, 3 season fleece and gore-tax waterproof jacket. In addition it is too narrow and becomes uncomfortable in extended use. The sternum srap is far too narrow and digs into the chest. For these reasons I have marked it down.
Osprey Customer Service,

Hello,

Thank you for your review.

We make the Talon to be a versatile pack that can be used for a number of different activities, because of this, the pack, hipbelt and sternum strap are narrow to keep the pack as lightweight as possible. However, we have supplied hipbelt extensions in the past to customers who require them.

If you would like to request a hipbelt extension please contact our Guarantee Team here and if you have any more questions or require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

light weight bag
I like this bag which is my favourite day sack. It's big enough for winter day walks as well. There are some nice features like the hydration pouch and the belt pockets. There are also two zipped pockets on the lid, the one inside is mesh and has a wallet sized velcro pocket. I find the small and lightweight clips on the waist belt and chest strap a little bit fiddly occasionally particularly with gloves. Also the waist belt pockets sit so far back around your waist/hips that its difficult to reach them, needing two hands to undo the zip often.
I like that it has side stretchy pockets with a strap to tighten them, as these are useful for various things such as trekking poles, water bottle, camera etc. I use the front stretchy pocket for sitmat and map. So overall lots of good features and nice and light.

Full of features
Comfortable and light daypack, brilliant for day hikes, big enough for all essential and survival kit and loaded with features, not to mention colourful and stylish. The hip pockets and shoulder strap pocket are great for small items and food, the external water bladder slot saves space inside the pack, and the top lid is large enough for waterproofs, gloves, and hat. The on-the-go pole hoops are an impressive and useful as well.

The only drawback is that the bag isn't waterproof, and doesn't come with a rain cover which is the standard for all hiking rucksacks from the low budget upward, so it's rather disappointing that one of the highest standard bags doesn't have a cover with it. Not only that but once you've paid another £15 for a cover, there's no pocket built in for it. Given the cost of these bags a rain cover should be included.

Surprised and impressed
Bought this as a lightweight day pack. Have ended up using it as my climbing sack (wall and crag) and winter Mountaineering pack.
I love the features and it is surprisingly roomy. I've packed it up with overnight backpacking gear too, all seems to fit.

A great light pack
I had a pack that was over 1.5 kg so I chose the Talon 33 which was about half that weight. We were going to hike the Alta Via 2 in the Grand Paradiso for 9 days and this neat pack held all I needed for that trip - easily. It was probably the most comfortable pack I have ever carried and I have about 9 in the garage! I was concerned that it was not "off the back" but the clever design meant that even in the hot Italian sun I rarely had the sweaty back that I do not enjoy. The adjustments are all clever and at the end of the trip I managed to put my boots on top thanks to the floating lid. This is a most excellent pack and I highly recommend it. I would add that it should have a built in rain cover - most similar packs to and it is boring having to carry a separate cover rather than have it built in.

A very versatile pack
I have had this pack for approximately 4 months now. The most comfortable pack I have ever used. I have used as a day pack and also for a summit bivvying trip in the lakes. Everything fits easily even though I don't have the most compact equipment. I feel once I have upgraded everything to what I want I could get away with multi-day trips with this pack. I have found great use of the pockets on the hip-belt, snacks in one side, small camera in the other.

Versatil & perfect
Used it for Santiago de Compostel (Starting in Le Puy), it was nearly to spacy until tighning the compression straps. I would recommand it anyway because it's lightweight & comfortable. Specially for Compostel, as you find water everywere, I would recommand avoid using a hydratation pocket & prefer side bottles in the lateral mesh pockets, to limit weight & carry what is necessary meanwhile controling the water you still have.
I use it now for 2 days hicking in Alps with hamoc or tent (custom straps on the bottom) & everything for autonomy. It fits well & keep the weight at 6kg (exl water&food). I definitly recommand it.
