A former elite cross-country skier, Kristin Harila is on her way to becoming a legend in mountain climbing.

Having only climbed her first mountain in 2015, Harila is now the fastest climber to summit the five highest mountains in the world (68 days), the fastest woman from peak to peak between Everest and Lhotse (8.5 hours) and the fastest person to summit six 8,000m mountains in Spring in Nepal (25 days).

In 2022, Harila attempted to set a world record to climb the 14 peaks – the world’s highest mountains over 8,000 metres – in one season. However, with 12 peaks reached, her attempt came to a halt when she was refused a permit from China to climb the last two peaks. Refusing to give up on her dream, she is making the attempt in 2023!

KRISTIN HARILA’S 2023 14 PEAKS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT

“I believe it is possible to finish this attempt in just four months”

This year, Kristin Harila is on a mission to complete the two mountains she was unable to climb in 2022, and set a world record to become the fastest person to climb all 14 of the world’s highest peaks in less than four months.

Harila’s attempt is scheduled to begin in March (subject to permits) when she will climb Shishapangma and Cho Oyu twice, followed by Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Kanchenjunga, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Manaslu, all in the Spring. After that, Kristin will climb the five peaks in Pakistan: Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, K2 and Broad Peak.

Kristin’s Osprey

Osprey Ariel Pro 65

Harila will be carrying the women’s specific fit Osprey Ariel Pro to the top of the 14 peaks.

“I have been using Osprey product for many, many years. For me, they are the best. I need to be able to trust and rely on the kit I take with me to the mountains, and a lightweight, comfortable backpack is one of the most important requirements.”
