Towering cliffs, rolling hills, craggy mountain faces and the occasional archaeological marvel. We’ve compiled a list of 5 of our favourite hikes around the United Kingdom to keep you busy.

The Fairfield Horseshoe

The Fairfield Horseshoe is an unmissable route found in the Lake District. Reaching 16.4 km (10.2 miles) the Fairfield appears to be a short walk. However, this challenging hike requires some extensive hill climbing, occasional mist navigation and bog traversal but yields some gorgeous views of the Helvellyn Mountain.

The Avon Valley Path

Meandering its way south toward the coastline, the Avon Valley Path is a 54 km (34 miles) route that follows its namesake: The River Avon. It begins in Salisbury, Hampshire, and moves through beautiful woodland, sleepy villages and vibrant riverside paths before coming to an end at Norman castle ruins in the coastal town of Christchurch, Dorset.

Lizard Peninsula

The Lizard Peninsula, likely adapted from the original name “Lys Ardh” in Cornish, is a short 11.2 km (7 miles) hike through some of the most striking British coastline you can find. Rugged, steeped with history and renowned for its rare plants and geology, the Lizard is one to take your time with.

Edale Skyline

The Edale skyline is a fantastic short route, with some stunning views, loved by runners and walkers alike. The 34km (21 miles) route works its way around the skyline of the Edale Valley in the Peak District. This is a fantastic short route with a lot to offer.

Hadrian’s Wall

The Hadrian’s Wall Walk is a 135 km (84 miles) route that moves from coast to coast crossing the width of England from Wallsend in the east to Bownesson-Solway in the west. As well as the wall itself there are countless historical sites to be found and, more importantly, plenty of warming pubs along the way.
