An Interview with Anne Wangler

#ospreyeurope #ospreyathlete

We caught up with Anne Wangler; Free skier, nature lover and self-proclaimed travel addict. She talks about how she first entered the skiing world and how skiing, travel and the outdoor is a way of life. Oh and some great music recommendations too!

How did you first get into skiing? Has it always been your passion?

My first time on skis was at the age of two. My parents strapped skis to my feet just and pushed me down a hill. For that I’m thankful because by the age of 16 I was racing. As time went by crashing gates gradually became less important and more boring. A few years later I found myself skiing in the backcountry. That´s what my heart beats for.

Where/what is your favourite slope?

Actually I like all areas that are a bit more remote and not so crowded. That being said, I think it’s really hard to choose a favourite one. There´s always something special about a certain place.
I spend most of my time skiing in the Alps but since I always feel the urge to travel and explore different places I’ve visited some really stunning places. I especially fell in love with Northern Norway.

What has been your proudest moment in your sporting life to date?

It doesn´t really matter where you are and what you´re experiencing. It´s more about being fully there. I think it´s a collection of all the precious moments, which create these beautiful memories. It´s about your way of life, things you´ve experienced. I spent a lot of time travelling alone over the last three years.
The way I see life now, being able to really appreciate the beauty of nature, having this huge smile all over your face and not being able to stop it, I think that´s what I´m most proud of.

“The way I see life now, being able to really recognise and appreciate the beauty of nature, having this huge smile all over your face and not being able to stop it, I think that´s what I´m most proud of.”

If you aren’t on the slopes where can you be found?

Climbing, scrambling, hiking around in the mountains, imagining the faces covered in snow and wondering about if they´re skiable or not.

Who is your biggest role model, in or out of the sport?

People like Shane McConkey, Dean Potter, Dan Osman … They were living to the fullest, following their passion, living their dreams, which is super inspiring. Also Angel Collinson – a badass, ripping female skier, who´s taking it to the guys.

You are deserted on an uninhabited island. You have one book, one album and one Osprey Pack, what do you choose and why?

A really nice little book about pursuing your dreams: Der träumende Delfin. Just one Album?? That´s difficult, okay: Trevor Hall – This is blue
I´m pretty sure it´d be the Kresta 20, I can fit everything I need perfectly. If I took anything bigger it would probably be stuffed with a lot things I won´t need and I´d have to carry them anyway. Travel light I say!
