We are very excited to support and fund the Mountain Wilderness project, ‘Cleaning the Alps’, which aims to remove harmful materials and to preserve mountain wilderness areas.
We are extremely proud to announce our support of Mountain Wilderness, partnered with EOCA. The aim of Mountain Wilderness (NGO) is to bring together mountaineers and nature lovers throughout the world to protect mountain environments and preserve last mountain wilderness areas.
Since 2002, Mountain Wilderness has been working tirelessly with volunteers to remove harmful materials. The Osprey funded project, “Cleaning the Alps”, has the goal of removing obsolete constructions in the French mountains, such as barbed wire, abandoned ski stations and cables. Osprey Europe has donated £25,000 (€30,000), which fully funds this exciting and important project.
Birds in the area, including bearded vultures, ospreys, owls, eagles, grouse and ptarmigans are particularly at risk from these obsolete constructions but there is also a real danger for local inhabitants and people exploring the area. The 20 team leaders heading up the project on the ground will each be equipped with our most versatile packs, Talon and Tempest, to aid in the day-to-day activities.

As a result of this fantastic project, Mountain Wilderness will also communicate the successfulness of these projects with mountain inhabitants and visitors as well as politicians and decision makers to raise awareness of the issue. Their communications recently contributed to the development of the ‘Mountain Law’ in France (Oct 2016), requiring operators to dismantle ski lifts if they are not used for 5 years.
